Delta to Recall 60 to 70 Furloughed Pilots
Friday June 9, 2:49 pm ET
Delta Air Lines to Recall 60 to 70 Furloughed Ilots

ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines Inc. said Friday it is recalling 60 to 70 furloughed pilots this summer.
The Atlanta-based airline, the nation's third-largest carrier, said the move would help Delta meet new schedule demands and add flexibility to ensure good on-time performance.

The recalled pilots will begin training in late June and will return to line flying for Delta in late summer.

With the move, Delta will have about 6,000 pilots.

The airline's pilot ranks have thinned by several thousand over the last five years while Delta lost billions of dollars. Delta filed for bankruptcy protection in September.

The only certainty is that DL pilots took a pay cut and that management is one of the worst in the industry. If you currently have a good job keep it and wait things out a little longer.

I agree with the management part (a little), there are a few new guys there who seem to be ok. Regards to the other part of your post..........You could say the same about jetblue.

Their pay is as good as any other legacy. And significantly better on the front end (though that doesn't make a difference to the recallees -- I believe DL if the only major that allows furloughees to accrue longevity for pay purposes.)

We didn't take an extra pay cut for this TA, it was the same pay cut we have had since last December. And, the bad management that has ruled us in the past is almost all gone, except Grinstein, and he has stated that he will leave when we are coming out of BK. That leaves us with some fairly sharp new guys that seem to have a plan. Whitehurst is one of them, and he has been very impressive so far, along with the guy incharge of revenue enhancement.

To clarify and this is not flame - was the mgt/mgr that gave you the big C2K contract - a good manager or a bad manager at the time?

Just for the record my post was never intended as flame bait. Not sure if anyone took it as such.

We all deserve pay raises when we are doing well, everyone deserves to share the wealth. We had taken a concessionary contract in '96, and our C2K raise was deserved. Southwest got a big raise (thanks to our pay rates at the time), and they still deserve it because they are doing well. Leo Mullin was incharge during the C2K contract signing, and he told some of our new Captains in the "incommand" forum near the signing that we should ask for as much as we deserve. He had no problem with that, probably since he was cashing in himself, and our first BK judge even asked the DL lawyers why he authorized a $2 billion stock buy back just 2 weeks before 9-11 (she surmised that was to inflate stock prices and options for Leo).

The pilots asking for a raise during good times was not a bad idea. Leo knew that. The problem was WHAT HAPPENED AFTER 9-11. Leo hoped USAir would go away because of the DCA closing after 9-11. He didn't change a thing for a full year, and then came to us for cuts. At the same time we (ALPA) found out there was a SERP--- Senior Executive Retirement Program---that had their own money off shore, protecting senior executive pensions. That was a huge mistake, and created distrust and a few more years before eventual pay cuts. Fred Greed, the President at the time, thought RJs were the answer, and parked mainline planes. Just then the LCCs started to takeoff, and the internet started to offer more sites with lower fares. Our management didn't know what to do, and we lost $12 billion over 5 years. Sure, we didn't want a pay cut, but the SERP fiasco sure didn't help the situation. The same thing happened at AA, and Don Carty was thrown out too. Can you see the mistakes here? Did we crash any planes during that time? Did we do our job? Leo Mullin was a BAD Manager After 9-11.

Anyone who thinks that these "New Guys" in mgt. are in it for anything other than a big payday at the pilots expense , deserve what they get. Quit grasping at straws and prepare for the other shoe to fall! Every time someone new arrives after a diaster, we give him the benefit of the doubt, and are never disappointed at the quickness and ruthlessness with which they screw ue!

Heck, I would go back. Delta has only lost about 600 million so far this year. What have you got to lose? Except your pension. And lots and lots of pay with more pay loss to come. But hey, it's a job. So what if you are making less than a shelf stocker at Home Depot, by golley, you are working for Delta and that makes it worth it.

Then again chuck....I mean boris....or is it einstein??
What would a POS like you know about aviation? I don't go to Mc Donalds and tell you how to make the fries! Now back to that rock!

You must have me confused for someone else. I don't work at McDonalds but I am sure some of your counter parts are or will be soon. And to answer your question: You don't see me working at Delta do you? It must suck to be you.

That's all you got mrs. flight attendant! How's the trailer park in MKE treating you? You obviously care so much or you wouldn't dwell on it in EVERY post LOSER!

Pretty weak there Mr. 737 Pylt. You can do better than that. Maybe you should whine to the moderators like you do when someone upsets you. I am just saying that if a pilot recalls to Delta, then the fast food industry just lost another up and coming "assistant manager" with some people skills. Not much but some. As for you, I hear there are some car washes in the Atlanta area needing some help. Maybe you can scrub Ty Webb's car before he goes to the beach.

Chuck...Einstein...Boring....You are reaching! You know, like you do with your boyfriend!
Stop worrying so much about Delta. We will make it out of BK, and turn around, but you will always be a huge pain in the ass!

General,

This is the best post I have ever seen you write.

We should all worry about signing a contract without provisions for Executive and employee compensation to adjust for future revenue that may shrink.

Now the party is over and the bills have to be paid. Even as the retirees don't recognize it.

Then why don't you explain why Delta can't get the financing it needs to exit BK. Banks and investors don't have any confidence in your company. I guess that doesn't matter does it? Keep telling yourself it will be all right. I also suggest you watch the finacial networks and see what they are saying about your company. Not a pretty picture. Pay cuts with more to come, no pensions. Yep, that's the company for me. IDIOT.
Then go back to McDonalds where you came from you coward flight attendant! I hear you make a pretty mean coffee little girl! I bet you look real good in that skirt too!
Enlighten us all Einstein, which carrier is it that you work for?

Chuckie must work at an Auto Parts store to supplement his Skyways F/A pay . . . . don't worry, your "counter parts" will be in soon . . . .

Chuckie's problem is that when he was a toddler, one night, his mother drank a little too much Milwaukee's Best at the bowling alley, and dropped him on his head.
