More ASA prelims released this morning - 2 AT7 Captains, 10 CR7 Captains, and 10 CR2 Captains. Something is up - wish I knew what it was.

Looks like junior CA was a 6/04 hire date. Of course this is only the prelims. We'll see what happens.

It's interesting to me that some of the people who are most vocal and bitter about being 5 year FOs don't even have their bids in for Captain.

Maybe the powers that be are actually learning to be proactive in covering flying.
All they have known for the past 27 years is to put out the fires as they occur.
Maybe just maybe we are going to see some growth but surely not as much as "Broke back Brian" and company would have you believe.

Shamrock, I talked with BM today about that and he said he has received several calls from people asking why they were passed over, and although they all had the CPT bid in, the majority of them didnt have have the required paperwork in, as in 1st class medical, flight time summary, etc..

I expect the finals to be very much different than the prelims once all these people get their stuff in.

Something is definately up. There have been a ton of upgrades the past two months. I'm a 50 captain been on reserve for a year and a half, held relief lines over the summer. I fly on average 50 hours a month. With our current flying, attrition, and the normal increase of the summer this seems to cover that and some more.

I just talked to a friend of mine who got an upgrade and she told me that Scott Hall was in recurrent telling them that upgrade will be down to 2 years in the future.

Did you still put your notice in?

That's not saying much. ASA didn't hire anybody really for 1 1/2 years between late 2002 and 2004. So all the 2002 hires are getting upgraded (those are the 4 year guys) and now the first 2004 hires will get upgraded. 2-early 3 years for them.

If he gets it think of how long he will be on reserves! Man that would suck!:puke:

If they are to stupid to know how to bid then they shouldn't be able to become a CA with my family in the back. As a friend on another web site said, "You can't fix stupid"!!!!! Don't want to hear it, it's always someone else's fault with these puzzies!
Anyway enough about my views, I'm glad that things are going in a different direction for once.

Let me post this first. Junior Captain will suck the sweat off a dead mans balls!!! I think if I was awarded captain I would pull my bid first thing in the morning. Wait until you can comfortably hold a line... then upgrade.

Don't forget the new contract will have airport reserve. Picture going from 16+ days off sipping margaritas by the pool this summer to.... and I don't want to even imagine this... Sitting in the crew room for hours hoping that scheduling calls in a horrible twist to your previous life.

You dont have a clue on how the awards actually work do you? Why do you think there is a difference between the prelims and finals?

And once the big dogs get into the swing of hiring, you'll drop your bid in for CA then? And spend another year waiting to get your 1000 PIC?

Well it's so folks can see what is open and who is going to "preliminary" become a CA, then put their stuff in if they want it. I agree is complicated but I did it twice now from FO to CA and never had a problem nor did I miss it b/c I wasn't paying attention to the prelim and my bid, could of held 700 CA a long time ago but since I knew what my bid was I wasn't worried I'd get it and be an junior CA. Just saying that people should quit bit_ching about things that are their own fault. DEAL with it you're an ADULT.

I don't get why so many people are against guys upgrading. Big freaking deal! That's how a seniority based system works. Being a junior Captain sucks and we all know it. It works for some guys and doesn't for others. Enough said. Be happy that things are changing in the right direction. Common sense goes a long way these days. I'm more concerned about Nancy Pelosi (sp?)

No SHI_T

I heard she had a job at Fed-Ex but choose her current situation....

I believe that if you are an FO, and your past 6 months from your medical date, and your first class has lapsed into a second class, then you are not eligible to be awarded an upgrade. So, you have 10 days to get that medical in.

Where can you find a copy of the seniority list with the DOHs on it? ... or any seniority list for that matter?

Thanx in advance

JJ

If you like the ASA lifestyle as an FO do not bid for Captain. If you want a life beyond ASA bid it and move on. Do not listen to anyone who tells you not to upgrade. I was junior Captain at ASA and left.

I rode a van with a ASA crew in Oakland. The FO was senior to me at ASA. I remember meeting him a couple times, he was a good guy. The difference was I was out there as an FO at SWA instead of 32 hours on the ground in Oakland as an ASA FO.

Upgrade at first available.

I couldn't agree more!!! who the heck would want to subject themselve to the mercy of scheduling if they are holding nice 3 day trips as an FO

I think ALL THOSE who have there bid in for junior captain should remove there bid AT ONCE!!

And the Bush Ad. does not scare you--try to strike and see what happens? or lets try to stop the war over oil. As your gas prices gone down for your personal use or airlines paying cheaper fuel prices=NO Illegals coming into this country does scare you? Let one of them hit you on the road and see what happens=YOU PAY FOR IT

Can't wait till I'm in your exact position someday. Yes being on RES sucks but it's totally worth it if you want to move on and the only way you can.
