Moderators, please stop the polls

Since we can no longer make any polls, why not delete the remaining polls so this child that insists on continually bringing them up to the top will have to get his jollies someplace else. I'm sure I speak for most when this has gotten extremely tiresome and wish it to end, thanks.

Thank you.

All in favor…All opposed….Abstentions? The motion carries death to the polls.

Might I suggest one section simply for polls and nothing else so we don't have to be driven insane by them. MOve every poll in all other areas there and only allow new polls in this one area.

My apologies if I offended anybody with the poll bumps but I couldn't stand it any longer.....

I see the problem this way:

all one has to do at this point is to vote on a poll to bring it up the ladder.

A simple solution is to turn off this function, making existing polls just like any other thread, requiring a post to raise them up the ladder. To make a post requires an identity, and the offender can be easily recognized, then dealt with.

also a worthy solution, along with the poll only group listing

Hear, hear! A worthy solution! It'll be just like old times. Instead of putting Indians on reservations, it will be polls in their section. Mahvelous!!!!

The more I think about it, the more I like Timebuilder's idea. However, either one would be a welcome relief.

What he said!

When you post a poll it asks you for an "expiration date," as in how many days from now the poll would close and no longer allow voting. The default is 0 (no expiration.) It seems like the best thing would be to only allow from 1 to 10 days, or something like that.

What Timebuilder said would work but this forum may not have a feature such as that to be turned on and off and would have to be custom programmed.

Before the Moderators turned off the feature that allowed us to start POLLS, I posted that very fact in a thread - - that they then deleted. :(

The ONLY polls that we have to deal with NOW are the ones that were started BEFORE the option to start a poll was turned off, and, as such, those expiration dates have already been set (usually at infinite).

I'm not in favor of completely eliminating POLLS - - as some of them are actually interesting and/or useful. I think reinstating POLLS with some limits would be good. Since the good folks at FlightInfo don't write the software for the board - - they can only control so many features - - there's not a perfect way to prevent POLL abuse short of turning them all off and deleting all that still exist. And I'm not in favor of deleting them all, either.

So, unfortuantely, it appears we'll just have to take the bad with the good. Kinda like REAL life, huh?

Either get rid of them or put them in their own section. Those d@mn things are annoying. While we're at it how about creating a section exclusively for RJDC threads, PFT threads, Jesus threads and anything else that's been beat to death.

I always thought polls brought out some interesting responses.

How about a polls forum, you put all the existing polls in that forum, and allow new polls to be posted there.

But maybe restrict option to create new polls to people that have been here a while and have a number of posts.

I find most of these polls ridiculous, mostly in that the posters don't put appropriate response choices to the questions posted. Still, if you hate them so much, you do have the freedom of the mouse to NOT CLICK ON THEM! It usually works for me.

thats true hugh,
but the problem were having is some choade keeps coming up and revoting on all the old polls to force them to the top and burying current topic matters, not a dis against polls persay, just their ability to be used as a hassle
thats all bro

I don't think it's possible to "RE-vote" on a Poll. It must be new guys, or old guys making a new "LOGIN NAME" just for the purpose of irritating folks.

Perhaps a restriction could be imposed that required some "Senior" status before voting in a poll - - maybe that would work. But once again, I don't see that as an option that the moderators can Select/Deselect - - it appears that would require modifying the software.

My advice is for us to stop complaining about something that can't be fixed, and let the childish troublemakers have their fun. I'd like to have Polls back - - some of them have been quite informative. They allow for the accumulation of anonymous data that we would not otherwise be shared. For example, we found that a certain percentage of respondants had padded their logbook time -- very interesting. How many of those would have answered in the affirmative had they been required to attach their name? Very few, I imagine.

I say, bring back the polls.

I second that. But say we need some type of minimum post or time on board restriction for posting and voting (say 7 days or 15 posts for voting, and 1 month or 50 posts for poll creation). Also a poll forum might be helpful so people that don't want to view them don't have to.

Those ideas are good but would be difficult to impliment. The easiest thing would be to set a mandatory expiration of around 7-14 days, and if that's not a feature that can be edited by admin I could easily reprogram the script(s). It would probably take only one or two lines of code.

I know, Lets.......

Have a poll on getting the polls their own section! Just kidding.....I think someone said it best....just dont click on it it works for me too.:D :D :D :D

working

I am trying to kill the polls......however, for some reason the software won't let me remove them.....starting to drive me crazy. I'll keep working on it.

Try a Mass Prune of any thread starting with "Poll:"

thought about that...However, that will kill every post with that word in it...regardless of what it is. Although, that might not matter and could be a good thing.
