Anyone know if commuters out of MKE can use the MKE employee lot? Do you need a SIDA badge? Is it possible to get a MKE SIDA badge if your airline flies there? I'll most likely drive most of the time if commuting, but curious what the options are should I decide to fly. Thanks!

Negative ghostrider.

There is no need for -- and as a commuter you will not get -- a MKE SIDA badge. You can however get employee parking. You pay two hundred and something dollars for a year (which your airline may or may not pay you back for, but you need a check for GMIA) and receive a rearview mirror hangtag good for the remote employee 'B' lot. This is not the close-in employee lot that Midwest and other GMIA based employees use, but the every 15 minutes bus ride lot out by YX MX hangar.

In the terminal take the elevator by Burger King up one floor and follow the signs to ID office.

Any other questions, ask away . . .

Good God, Man, you don't want to commute from MKE to MDW by air. If you plan your commutes around rush hour, you're talking about a 90 to 120 minute drive. It'll take you at least that long to navigate the MKE airport, get on a flight, and fly to MDW. That's if you don't get bumped off the Saab for ZFW.

I hope you didn't move to MKE for a woman or something. Moving for the availability of cheap beer and seven night a week softball leagues might be OK.

Yes I have. Super book on what it was like at PanAm.

OK all thanks for the info. I was just curious since wintertime I might not be too excited about navigating I-94 in snow and stuff!

No njcapt it's not for a woman. My woman does live up that direction but I'm moving in with some buddies from college who fly at Skyway a couple blocks from the lake. Big house. Partay!

For several years I lived in Oak Creek and Franklin while working for Eagle out of ORD.

Most of the time I drove, for me it was less than 70 miles almost all interstate (I-94 to Golf rd). But when the weather was good I'd commute in from MKE, takes you straight to the terminal, makes a change, less miles on car, etc etc.

The other option is to take the bus. It goes from MKE to ORD like every hour with just a few stops enroute. Will run all winter until I-94 is actually closed by snow! Let someone else deal with the weather. Sit in the back, read or sleep. Also it's a great backup for getting back home -- last bus used not to leave to like 11:30. Buy a book of passes and you get 50% airline discount.

flychicaga,

i think metra has a daily train from Kenosha to Chicago. take that to union, walk the couple blocks to the Clark EL stop and take the Orange train to MDW. nice.

whenever i need to commute to MDW, I take metra to ohare, blue line to clark then over to orange ($5) can't beat that @ 2hrs.

other than that, I-94 in winter shouldn't be that bad. the removal of the Lak Cook toll plaza has eased up traffic tremendously.

FlyChicaga,

The State of WI along with MKE County just started building a train station just due west of MKE. Amtrak will be stopping there going to/from Chicago. Scheduled to open in the fall. Station will be located south of the Midwest Airlines MX hangar. I would imagine you could park in the remote employee lot and walk the 50 yards to the station.

Last time I checked, fares from MKE to Chicago were in the $40 R/T range.

Peace

No Mooser, I have this name as I am a living, breathing Skygod. A king of the wild blue yonder. Master of the ether. Divine aviation royality. Everything with wings bows deep before me. Skygod.

I'm also a Virgo that likes long walks on the beach, world peace, and irony.
