The Diamond is a pretty good airplane for the money. It has decent speed (we saw an average of 400 ktas) and a good cabin for a light jet.
It is sluggish and under-powered in hot temperatures. We operated our Diamond IA in the Southeast out of a 5300' strip at 1000 MSL. On a 30C day, the TOFL is 5300' at a 14,500 lbs (1000 lbs under gross).
Our aircraft didn't have the increase landing weight mod, so we were restricted to 13,200 lbs. Our BOW was approximately 10,200 lbs. We did a lot of short hops with an average pax load of at least 5 people, so we couldn't tanker fuel.
Our DOC's were right around $1,000 per hour.
The range is limited. Depending on winds, our range was approximately 900 nm. Our max fuel was 4200 lbs. We consistently saw the following fuel burns:
1st hour: 1500
2nd hour: 1200
3rd hour: 1100
*Note: This was before D-RVSM.
We planned to be on the ground within 2 hours 45 minutes.
Depending on your mission profile, it can be a good airplane. I hope the information is helpful. If needed, I'll be happy to share more specifics.
