I personally have a problem with those of you bashing all of us who work at a "low cost" regional. Who are you all to say that I am so wrong for working at a regional that happens to pay a little less than the next. We are talking about peanuts here.

If I can make a few grand less a year and upgrade in 14 months instead of 6 years, Ill take that any day.

Does anyone realize the long term benifits here, or is it just me? My career goal has never been to work at a regional, and the day I think that working at one for a career may be a reality is the day I go find a real job.

For now, im going to make my $60/hr to fly a 50 seater for the chance that I won't have to sit in the right seat for half of my youth. For those of you that are making a career out of a regional, I dont mean to offend you, but many of you have offended me and I finally feel it is time to share how I and many others feel.

Im sorry Comair and COEX and whoever else is not happy today, but I didnt get greedy.

I have to go. Thanks for listening to my rant.

While I can't disagree with your post, I do think you need to realize one point..

We are all in this together.

However, having 1000 PIC now versus 6 years from now does have its merrits.

Signed,
A 13 month CHQ upgrade
(1200 turbojet PIC)

A couple problems with that rant. First off it's not a couple dollars difference. If that were the case, then Mesa and the likes wouldn't be able to severely underbid ACA (RIP) and the likes. If you want to look at just pay rates, well then it doesn't look all that different. However just add in 8.5 days a month for Mesa reserves versus 11 days off per month at other "regionals" and now the anty is upped. In a quality regional contract, you're guaranteed days off, very little junior manning, you are guaranteed pay for the original value of the trip, even if all of its cancelled, you're given block or better per leg, you have the ability to formulate 6 weeks of vacation while only bidding 2 due to complete trips taken away if they touch your vacation week, you're offered profit sharing, you have umpteen other pay protection rights so you don't have to worry about cancellations and adjustments out of your control, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

And second this attitude of "well, I'm not going to be at a 'regional' long" is horses**t. That worked fine 10 years ago when it was truly regional flying done in small aircraft. Now, the so called regionals fly major airline routes and Mesa flies an aircraft the size of a DC-9. Less and less legacy jobs are available because of this rampant shift and partly due to attitudes like yours. The irony possible in your future will be that if you go over to another carrier and then are furloughed because the carrier siphons off your 737 job to Mesa flying a 190 at crappy pay rates and more drastic crappy work rules.

I agree with Scuba.

You may just be stuck at a regional for 5 to 7 years now. I would rather have a good QOL and enjoy going to work than be miserable as an FO and then a Capt. Do whatever floats your boat.

What would be great is when he moves up to the big bucks, the company he used to work for takes his flying. When he gets furloughed, then maybe he will learn.
