I am looking at a Bonanza, but it turns out the original engine logbook is missing. The engine was a factory reman in 1997, has 650 hours on it, and a lot of the history has been documented through workorders, receipts, etc. Any ideas on how the missing logbook would affect the value of the aircraft?

Is the missing log for the time period before the factory overhaul or after? Could mean alot. Mostly, with anything like this you have to look at the market, the type airplane involved and the condition of other records and such. Does it look like someone is covering somthing up? Can they prove when, how the log became missing? (example: friend had a fire and logs were destroyed. documenting the fire in the new logs was a positive)

Sorry to be so vaige but if you are willing to pay a certain price for a clean airplane with "reletively" good records, ods are you will find someone like you when you are ready to sell that airplane. That is really what drives the price.

remember, incomplete logs do not make a bad plane but always affect the sale in some way. When you want to sell it 5 years down the road, you may have to bargain and wait an extra 5 months over other aircraft on the market at the same time.

Just taking a stab here, not completely sure of the situation you're dealing with, but TCM *may* not provide the logs from prior to the factory reman job (might have been an exchange). Quite possibly/probably, you've ended up with mixed and matched parts from other engines. All either new or yellow tagged, obviously.

having the logs from the prior life may not be part of the deal. just clarifying, most of the time a factory reman engine is "zero" timed. I don't think the info prior to a factory overhaul would be that important.
