I was charged with a minor in possession of alcohol when I was 19. I am twenty one now and looking at applying to a few regionals in the near future. How will the airlines look at this? Basically I was at a music concert and was caught drinking. I learned my lesson...

Thanks in advance for your response...

did you get probation?
an Alford plea?
in that case, you can usually expunge this sort of thing from court and police records
and when it's expunged, you can tell the airlines your record's clean, as it won't show up in any searches

I did no probation, had no suspensions of any kind....I simply appeared in court, plead guilty and paid a fine of $250.00.

minor is someone under the age of eighteen, and while legal alcohol consumption age is twenty one, he was an adult in the eye of the law
hmm, a guitly plea will probably have to be reported, since it's non-traffic misdemeanor

check your court records, maybe the judge was nice enough to include a provision for your records to be expunged upon you turning twenty one and being violation free for a number of years

Vlad ... Your avatar is totally eff'n whack. I think it's my boss. :D

Well, that's good. That will be easier to expunge than with the fingerprints in the FBI data system.

Go to the Judge in person before hiring an attorney. Explain what you are trying to do. He may be sympathetic and remove it. A lot depends on how your attitude has changed since the violation.

Technically, it is still reportable, but if it can't be found...

If your record is clean since then, I'd say it's better to admit it and not have it show, which shows you are honest, than to not admit it and have it show up, which shows just the opposite. A lot of it will depend on how the question on the application is phrased.

I fully agree. I would have it expunged, but freely admit it to a prospective employer. It shows three things: 1) You were bright enough to take the initiative and get ride of it; 2) The judge saw maturity and redemption; 3) You are honest to admit it. Those three things demonstrate maturity in judgement.

I would rather hire someone whom has learned a lesson and to admit it, than to have things pop-up unexpectedly.

First, I agree with several others: find out what others CAN find out about you. No matter what job you apply for, these things may come up if you don't know what's out there.

Common sense says this doesn't matter, but I'm sure there are several statisticians that could prove a strong correlation between underage drinking citiations and adult alcohol abuse.

Finally, I had 2 MIPs. One <18 and was expunged, the other at 19 where I had to pay a fine, also. I have a bi-annual ritual that includes a full background check and credit history report. I'm not even a professional pilot. I do want to know what is out there about me when I seek employment, insurance, credit, or an apartment/house. FYI: neither MIPs have ever shown up.

It's worth the $50-$250 for the info. Especially if it's for a flying gig.

I got public intox when I was 18 (hey, it was my first night of college!) and had to show my police record a couple years later for a job. It didn't show up. I went to the police office and asked for the printoff. I think it was like $5.
