dude- your in the airlines- and you know that qualified is a sliding scale - Military guys - had to jump through more hoops to get their wings than did the civilian guy- Depending on which service - battery of testing just to get in (including 4 yr. degree) a commissioning school OCS-OTS-AOCS- Acadamy- Rotc- flight physicals- (not like the civilian ones) - UPT -(high wash out rate- if a civilian fails - you can just throw more money at the problem and it will probably go away) In fact all through training - your wings are in jeapordy- AT the end you usually have a very highly qualified individual - that is proven intelligence - abiltiy to fly complex aircraft- Also has a proven squeeky clean background with OERs/Fitreps- to prove what he has done - where he has been - and job performance (a known quanity) - Now for the Civilian - Usually a four year degree- followed by instructing followed by freight etc. - to the regional airlines - (at that point a qualified canidate by still kinda unkown quanity) - goes to regionals airlines- gets great experience 121- knows the job and is a known quanity - So we are back to the begining- -- the best canidate is the guy with the best resume- the most letters of recommendations - and the guy who is dating the chief pilots daughter or who's dad knows who -- ain't nothing fair or totally unfair- Welcome to the world of aviation- Max
