Af 757

Wouldn't it have a ton of different antennas sticking out of it? This just seems like a plain jane 757. And why is it in Finland? And why does it have RR engines? hmmmm.......

It may be based in Eglin now? But it has been down in Texas near SAT for a number of years previous to this. The guys in the 89th talk about it in hushed whispers so I guess it is on the dark side. RR powered is a little strange considering all 89th's are PW 2000 series.

It's not a "tron" sucker (STS) like an RC-135. But it does accomplish a similar mission.

As far as the motors, perhaps the picture is not a picture of the AF's 757.

The aircraft does in fact have RR RB211's on it. Much better than the PW2000 series engine in regards to reliability.

These aircraft are based in the Northeast at an Air Force base. I know because I just flew into there and they have a few parked. In fact one was doing transition in the pattern. Talked to a few people in base ops.

They have a very important mission.

That's all. Let it go.

Attitude?

HVYDRVR....Sorry but the U.S. Airforce has only 2 (as in the number Two) B757's that is RR powered. Better check your eyes as a few means more than just two. Also, one of them have been based in SAT for the last few years. Maybe they changed bases recently. Are you sure you are not looking at the L3 Boeing 757's? Don't ask me how I know all this as I might have to do away with you somehow. Yes I am sufre their mission is important.

Here are the specifics:

B757-23A, LN 661 AF reg. 02-4454 SN 25493 RR
B757-23A, LN 523 AF reg. 25001 SN 25494 Previously with AW. RR

All other Air Force B757's are PW2000 powered.

Let's see if we can break this down.

You pile your reserve buddies into your '10 for a UTA boondoggle to a nameless "Northeast" Air Force base, saunter into base ops to file your next leg, and the "few people" you bump into spill the beans on this secret squirrel unit's "very important mission?" What kind of a clearance do you have?

I can't let it go now. I just can't!
