Howdy all,

How liberal are the regionals with military leave? Like if I want to fly a 2 week trip with the reserves, will they let me without any hassle? I'm thinking about trying to get a job at a regional but I still want to able to fly military trips when they come up. Thanks for the responses!

A one month heads up seems to be a pretty standard and accepted practice.

But short notice stuff might get scheduling, and perhaps a chief pilot phone call to your unit.

In either case they have to let you go. Here's the reference: http://www.esgr.org/

Enjoy!

Dudemize;

It is the law. They have to let you go when you give them a set of orders. Below is a quote directly from USERRA:

Significant changes in military leave of absence management include:

  • An employee no longer requests permission to be absent for military leave but rather provides notification of pending military service.
  • There is no longer any differentiation between voluntary and involuntary service
  • An employee cannot be required to use earned vacation or similar leave days for military leave of absence
  • Military service will not be counted as time away from the employer for retirement purposes (Federal employees should review the Code of Federal Regulations, series 5 CFR 353.201-210 for details related to their employment.
Here is the link: http://www.esgr.org/members2/thelaw.asp

You can read it for yourself. Just try and be employer friendly. Give your employer as much heads up as possible, so they can make the necessary changes to your schedule.

Hope this helps!!!

Comair is very good about it. Obviously try and give them as much heads up as possible. They understand you do get last minute requirements, however. They seem to appreciate the job you do for the country as well as for them.
