the current issue of PACIFIC FLYER shows a picture of a mig 19 at an air show that's finishing a loop; it's scraping the ground ( denting it's tail pipe (gear up)) but he then circles around for a normal landing

a note said the pilot was killed a few years later at an air show while flying a mig 21

(the note also said that the ground was slightly sloping down, saving the mig 19)

I can't access Pacific Flyer to get a picture of the MiG incident you mention, but it sounds like a guy I used to fly with.

If it's the incident I know of, I believe it was actually a MiG 17 tail he scraped on the ground. Here's a link to some info on the MiG 17 that Doug used to fly.

Here's a link to the MiG 21 crash. As you can read, it was not at an airshow but during a contract flight for the Canadian military.

Here's a link to some pix of the MiG 21.

Doug was also part owner of Crazy Horse and Mad Max, the 2 TF-51's that Stallion 51 operates out of Kissimmee, FL.

A photo of a Mig doing just what you mention is a hanging on the wall at the Harrison, AR FBO. The Manager told me that it was during an airshow they held at the field several years ago. He said that the pilot was a known madman and got dead doing that same kind of trick some years later.
