My buddy has been recalled there so many times, I doubt he's going to come back. It's that fool me once... shame on you, fool me twice...shame on me, thing.

It looks as if the pendullum is swinging back the other way...lets figure Delta doesn't give skyways the dork jets and lets firgue that Midwest does or doesn't do this, that or the other thing. Actually when you think about it...the Delta/Dork jets was about the biggest news Midwest/Skyways had going for it lately. Other than those two more B717's.

I don't think Midwest is big news...no matter how many people they call back.

Actually my buddy was hired 01/2001 and was recalled... He took a pass...

First sign of June 2007

The signs are falling in place for the June 2007 hiring boom.

Now your crystal ball is telling you specifically June 2007...

A word of advice, I wouldn't take indications about the health of the industry from the recall of a few pilots at a small operation like Midwest...

What do you think about USAir probably going back into Chap 11 in the next few days? (And quite possibly Chap 7 shortly there after)???

What about Delta basically saying they are going into Chap 11 within the next few weeks???

Gonna be an awful lot of pilots out there....

No different that 1994

EAL, Pan Am, Midway all went bankrupt in the early 90's. Dumped 10,000 highly qualified pilots on the streets. It did not effect the hiring boom of 1997-2001. You have to make assumptions about the future in order to plan for the future.

Usually, I try to steer clear of Yip and his detractors, but in this case I think he is correct (or at least more correct). Do you REALLY think that the airlines won't be growing in '07?

It isn't going to be the promised land, but neither is it going to be very bad.

Hey Yip--Should I tell those youngsters out there to go ahead and finish up their 4-yr. degrees?

HEY! I'M KIDDING, I'M KIDDING for crisssake! Geez, tough room... ;)

Seriously, though. Even if there are 10,000 pilots on the street, they still have to be hired somewhere. That's a hiring boom. Doesn't mean they will be hired into the left seat, it just means they will be hired.TC

I'm just a starting to realize why I like responding to your posts...it's because I'm toasted again and your avatar looks like it needs my love... :) REALLY? no...not really!

2007? Dang...I better be going to school cause I like to excersize my brain! Hahaha...aviation looks so fubar right now.

Young dudes like jedi cheese or whatever got a chance, but I just see the Titanic and a band playing on the deck!

I better go make another request to the band and go make another drink...it's going to be a while...

Recall effect on hiring

A majority of the furloughed pilots have taken other flying jobs. I know we have a half dozen NWA, DAL, and UAL refugees. When a pilot is recalled it opens up the job he is leaving. This recreates a job; it may create two or three jobs. For example lets say one of our pilots goes back to NWA, we hire a pilot from a regional to replace our loss, now the regional hires a pilot from a 135 charter outfit to replace its loss. So a little recalling and hiring really builds up the numbers.

You know what happens when you "ass-u-me." Don't forget Braniff, Yip.

Many of those ten-thousand never went back to flying after being dumped on the streets. Some of them might have been at or close to retirement when dumped and could not go back to flying or were at those ages when the 1997 boom started. For these reasons, they did not affect the 1997-'01 hiring boom.

Finally, pursuant to the original post in this thread, don't forget the furloughees standing by for recall. It could take years for the airlines to absorb them. And, after them, the hoardes of current highly-qualified applicants who are in line for any new jobs. Consider those assumptions along with any 2007 hiring boom "assumption." In the meantime, finish your degree. You can "assume" you'll need it to unlock aviation H.R. doors and/or for a "real" job if the boom bombs.

Which Braniff?

Braniff I was forced out of business by AA back in 1982, approx 2500-3000 guys on he street, but that would not apply to the 1994 time frame. Braniff II & III died ulgy deaths in the late 80's but did not effect that many pilots.

How many of those furloughed pilots found other flying jobs. Sounds like there may be a hiring boom at Pizza Hut.

So many of those furloughed at AA, U and UA are like me--mid-40's. If I stay out another couple years, there's no point to going back--even directly to the left seat.

Some guys may have to bypass because they have a training contract at ABC Truck Driving School. ;) TC

P.S.--FN, you can see a lot more of my avatar, Miss Gina Wild. She's done quite a bit of "acting" although most of her work is only available in selected video stores... :D

Thanks for the info!!

How is the life of a "cheese-head" these days? Maybe I'll be seeing you in MKE for class in the future??!!

To FN Fal and the others.....why such negativity?

MidEx has great people working for it and is surviving in this market. It isn't a Major, never was, never will be, so the fact that it isn't "big news" for everyone is true. However, there are a few out there that would go back for various reasons and are interested in any news posted.

There are many taking the pass because they have found employment at ATA, Spirit, and a few other airlines. We have been out for (almost) three years and it can be expected that very few will return. Why do you think the LOU was promulgated with respect to recalls a few months back?

At this time, I am looking forward to going back. If I am furloughed again, well, it was my choice to gamble on the recall and return. As for job security at other airlines, some are better than others, but it will never be like it was prior to the events of 09-11.

To be honest, I am hoping to be in the 717......

Take care
