MIA or FLL commute / parking?

I live between MIA and FLL. Given the choice, and I can only chose 1 for homebasing, which is the better airport to use?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on free hotel parking lots to use near MIA or FLL?

I'm not going to give away my secrets but I've never paid a dime for parking at either airport.
