What are the restrictions or procedures for FFDO's bringing in their weapon into Mexico on an overnight

Just make sure it's at the bottom of your overnight bag. Ammo separate of course, I usually keep mine in the cooler.

In Canada you're weapon is kept in a lock box by the CBSA staff and is given back when the pilot on his return flight - does Mexico have the same procedure - just asking?
