We just got bulletins from our company that crews laying over in Mexico will be subject to the 3-1-1 liquids rule, just like passengers. And that high-intensity flashlights may be subject to extra scrutiny, and could possibly be confiscated.

What's up with this? Did we pee in somebody's pozole, and now this is retaliation of some sort? Or are there real reasons for this?

Simple......leave the flashlights in the plane and under the pilot seats if necessary. If you have liquids to bring in......clear first then tell them you have to go back out to plane to get something. You can bring a bazooka in with you........
