Where can I find info on the sa227 or 226? I need to familiarize myself with the cockpit, etc.

You have my sincere condolences.

Anyway, here are some tips:

Get a good headset, and earplugs.
Don't bring the speed levers to "low" until you are out of reverse and at taxi speed.
Get a good headset, and earplugs.
If the cargo door won't close, get underneath the tail and push up. It'll close then.

Hmmm, noise is an issue and the tail sags so the door won't close... What is a reccomended headset? Can you hear ATC with headphones and earplugs? I imagine you can...
sounds great..

Snowman,

First of all the Metro is not as noisy in the cockpit as many other TPs. Like the MU2, BE99, Merlin, etc. Yes, a good headset is important. I have almost 3000 PIC in the Metro and enjoyed every minute. It does make you work and makes you a better instrument pilot. But if you know its limitations, it will do everything you ask of it. You don't need to sweat fuel like a 1900. I have flown a couple across the North Atlantic, one non stop with only an extra 1000 pounds of fuel.

As for a headset, I used the Telex ANR with the full muffs. No ear plugs. With the DC 10-40s with super muffs, I had to use ear plugs. But with the Telex, I could hear people talking in the back.

As for the tail droop. I never ran across it unless you exceeded fuselage bending weight. I found that you had to taxi at least one foot straight ahead before stopping to ensure that the doors opened and closed without damaging the door seals.

I know Sportys has a flip chart set for the Metro and there is a company that makes flip cards for it also. But these are mostly for recurrent folks.

Snowman,

After you use an ANR headset you will never want to go back to the old DC headvises. You can hear the difference turning them off and on again. The Bose is IMHO still way overpriced compared to the Telex. I can't hear much difference between the two. Many of the newer Telex's are using the radio headset power to power the ANR feature. Which saves greatly on batteries and makes a new headset a better value than some of the older ones. My current ANR is 15 years old and still works well.

I've been flying the metro since June using David Clark H10-13.4's. It is okay, a little loud but not obnoxious. Sitting right seat in a metro means noise cancellation will have to wait for more $$$. Systems not overly complicated. Easiest aircraft to taxi I've flown. Ok in pitch, a real dog in the roll axis handling wise. Fun to climb out at when you're light. Make sure you're rudder pedals are centered before turning on nosewheel steering on landing or it's off to the weeds for you. Even worse in the sim. Have fun.
