Metal detector-friendly shoes

This probably isn't the right board to ask this on, but since I figure most of us on this board go through security on a regular basis I thought i'd ask... What are some of the brand names and prices of shoes that don't set off the metal detector at the airports? Taking my shoes on and off all day is getting really old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a pair of Deer-Stags, got them from DSW (Discount Shoe Warehouse). They are very comfortable. The shoe acutally has a tag on it that says "Airport Friendly". Have never beeped going through security.

I purchased a pair of Dockers Airport Friendly shoes at Kohls for about 40$$. Super light and comfy and also very professional looking.

Bostonian has a line of shoes that are pretty nice. I got a pair for $70 or $80 bucks. They do the trick. I think that Rockport has a line as well, but they will set you back a little more, they cost $100+.

I have Deer Stags too and never once had a problem with security. JCPenney sells them for about $40.

Another vote for the Deer Stags. The VEGAS shoe is very comfy. Only if they have the SUPRA sole though, are they considered airport safe.

If you want to spend a little more and get a really really comfortable pair of shoes. Cole Haan makes a line a shoes with Nike Air soles. They are hands down the best pair of work shoes that I have ever warn.

I got mine on sale at Nordstroms for about 120$ They are almost 2yrs old and just now starting to show some signs of fatigue.

I am going to put these in the you get what you pay for catagory.

I have never had any problem with TSA detectors.

Doesn't really matter anymore, since the Wand Monkeys will "recommend" that you take your shoes off before going through the metal detector, and then when you don't beep, send you off to the side for additional screening as your shoes are suspicious.

Oh yeah, when they do that, ask for the supervisor and ask him why the screeners chose a uniformed crewmember for random screening (we're supposed to be exempt).

I don't know where your having trouble but, In uniform or not as long as you have your CREW ID you no longer need to remove your shoes. TSA made that change month's ago.

If you somehow set the dector off when you go through, your in for the wand.

Cole Haan does make a great shoe-but I think that the slip on is the only one that they make that is "airport friendly". Ecco is also airport friendly for their entire line. Very comfortable for $130.00.
So far I have not been asked to take off my shoes through security while in uniform, or if I have my company ID badge with me.

I don't know where your having trouble but, In uniform or not as long as you have your CREW ID you no longer need to remove your shoes. TSA made that change month's ago.

And that change has been changed again... as of early last month.

Skechers makes a shoe that's dressy enough for the uniform but casual enough to wear with jeans on the overnight. The only metal is around the eyelet dealies.

I think I paid about $40.

Try Rockports. I bought my pair for $45 at Penneys and they said "airport friendly" on the box. They weren't kidding. I've never set off the detector while wearing them.

Add another vote for the Rockports. They have a new line that is waterproof (great for walkarounds in weather, de-ice fluid etc.), has the Fiberlon shank (no metal), and come in several styles. Picked up a pair of the cap toe style at Nordstroms for 85.95

my shoes don't set off the box...but now the TSA PUKES are making me take them off because the heel appears to be more than an inch thick....

wack 'em all, and hire professional profilers, racial or otherwise, and we'll not have any security issues.

ECCO is another without any metal. Very professional looking shoe, comfortable and light. $130 at Dillards

For those of us that wear boots instead of shoes, I used to wear Justin Ropers but also got sick of taking them off. I switched to another Roper by Laredo and they are completely scanner-proof (the shank is carbon fiber)! I never set it off, but the TSA bozo's get real wide-eyed when they see me walk through with them on, figuring they will nail me. Oh well, no problems so far, although the heels are a little thicker as well!

I bought a pair of Justin Ropers in 1999. I quickly went through the leather sole as expected. Replaced with rubber sole.

In 2003 after being subjected to the "white sock" scan, in uniform, I spent $60 re-soling without the metal shank. I've never had a problem since. I've been through DFW, MDW, and MCO in and out of uniform, numerous others in uniform, but always had an ID.


Isn't it really stupid that we're "networking" for shoes that we don't have to take off at security? Never mind the 1000s of lbs. of fuel, maglites, and sharpened hotel pens we can carry. It's those d@mned shoes, I tell ya.
