Does anyone have any idea (very serious no crappyflame) about mesaba going to have major problems with nwa scope of the 90 seater? what do people forsee with this? any ideas on how this will play out? will they obviously get the equipment, and without regard to the scope? i was just curious? or is this a big concern for the current mesaba pilots? thanks i am just trying to get the temperature of how big of a deal it is to the over growth of mesaba

1) They are 90 seat airframe with 76 seats. This was carved out in the language.

2) It appears as if Mesaba is moving forward, vac. notice 07-01 and will let NWA handle the scope issues with their pilots

3) I don't know of any mesaba pilots worried

It's been a long time since I've read it, but I believe the mainline NWA guys have first dibs on the left seat. If you bid over to the new crj in the right seat you will be seat locked. So basically, nwa guys in the left seat and xj-furloughs/ new hires in the right. Like I said, I'm not sure, but I'd be concerned how this one is handled. Unless you make most of your income off the stock price, you stand to lose a great deal. I'd at least pay close attention to how much ALPA politics are influencing the process. This is a unique situation in which ALPA is completely in conflict with representing both sides of an issue.

I am not totally schooled in this matter but I have read some info on the scope. Because we (XJ) are wholly owned, we fall under a different paragraph in the scope clause. That means the 900's which come have to be offered to NWA pilots (the seat and number i am not aware of). Because of this new paragraph, flow up (metered) and flow down is a factor. Also it means that 90 planes can be ordered and any more would be a 1:1 ratio for mainline getting 110 seaters.

They could get by this by giving all XJ pilots a seniority number then all XJ pilots are actaully NWA pilots, getting them out of scope. But in that case, the NWA pilots could bid for a capt position in the saab or even the 900. I think that would be a okay deal. If growth is expected, then its a win win situation. by i am no lawyer, nor am I a NWA mainline guy. My feelings is that its their scope, they figure it out and decide my fate. period.

What makes you think they'll represent XJ?

Zing . . .

Seriously, though - MSAALPA really doesn't have much to do with this, do they? The only thing Tom W. has said was that Spongie called and said, "Hey, pack your bags - we're gettin' Jets!"

Nothing about how we finally get some fruit from our labor, or something about staying the course, or what have you. I understand they've been rather busy with some claim something-or-other, but nothing?

I don't think MSAALPA has even mentioned whether they believe the awards to be in violation of the scope on not. Curious.

Scope

During the last phone conference this issue came up.

It was said by Tom W. the NWAmec does not want the jobs from the 36 CRJ 900's. They are filing a grievence because the purchase of Mesaba does not easily fit into the new scope language and they wanted quids added to their contract.

Personally I am worried about the issues related to the new aircraft which I don't think are going to stop at 36. Seperately Bill P. has been going around the recurrents saying that NWA is actively looking at SAAB replacements. So who knows.

I am not sure I want to be seat locked just because of a jet. I moved up 33 numbers in 2 weeks and the company is looking for between 25 and 50 new instructors so I could wind up with a bad captain schedule in MEM by fall. I do not believe that people will stop leaving Mesaba just because of 36 jets.

And for what its worth the claim issue to me is like winning the lottery, which could wind up being about a years pay. I am disturbed by the bickering about who gets what.

Great it stats again...well tobe competive we are going to have to lower ours costs to secure the saab replacement flying

yup, first they spend two years securing the saab flying, now it is another beatdown to secure the saab replacement! Spanjers is like a bad comedian, he's got a million of em!!

Well, I guess it's time to get that app in at Colgan, so they can come on over and replace our Saab flying with their Q-400s.
