I'm thinking about applying to Mesaba and had some questions for people who are there.

How's training? (long? paid? hotel?).

What's going on there? Any new planes?

What do people usually get assigned to (saab/146)?

Do you like working there / does it seem "secure"?

Where will new hires be based / how long until you can bid MSP?

How long are you on reserve? How many days off/month?

Min. hours/month guarantee?

Thanks in advance.

PS - For those who have applied recently, how long until you heard something?

You should come to Pinnacle. Fast Upgrade. New contract coming.

How's training? (long? paid? hotel?). Training Rocks (8 weeks give or take), I just finished my oral, great instructors, you make standard 75 hours per month, and hotel is free and plush.

What's going on there? Any new planes? Not sure-rumors are abundant tho.

What do people usually get assigned to (saab/146)? I got assigned the Saab. It varies and there does not seem to be any preferential selection from the people I know.

Do you like working there / does it seem "secure"? I wouldnt want to be anywhere else. Almost everyone @ XJ is happy to be here. I have not talked to anyone who thinks they made a mistake. The only guys that I have met that seem bitter are the newhires of 99-00. They got the shaft with upgrades and are just finally getting the left seat.

Where will new hires be based / how long until you can bid MSP? I am based MEM, although most went to DTW. I did not want DTW because of the cost of living and the amount of people trying to get from the MSP side to the DTW and vise versa. I have 7 in front of me before I get MSP, and I am hoping for a late summer early fall before I get back.

How long are you on reserve? How many days off/month? I think the gaurantee is 11 off per month, not sure on reserve, I think if you get MSP as a newer guy your on for a long time. That does not bother me, as I will spend it polishing an old aluminum plane.

Min. hours/month guarantee? 75 per month Gaurantee.

I am just a new guy, so my info is from what they told me. Some other folks can prob do better.

Steve-

Don't pay any attention to 8HRRULE...

These subject have been covered several times in the forums... but I'll give ya the quick run down...

Training is about 2 months long. Length varies by about a week between Saab and Avro, with Avro being slightly longer. You are paid your hourly flight pay all through training. And you are placed in a very nice hotel for your stay.

There have been many rumors lately, but right now we're hiring for attrition, maybe more later on...

Aircraft assignments are totally at trainings discretion. Newhires are going into both aircraft.

Out of all of the regionals, in my opinion, we are very well placed. Of course, each has their pros and cons, Mesaba is a good company to work for.

As a new hire, you will be based in either MEM or DTW for the Saab or MEM, DTW, or CVG for the Avro. Getting back to MSP depends on our hiring. Several people hired in November of last year just got MSP effective in April. But it depends on hiring trends...

Again, reserve depends on hiring trends. So I can't tell ya exactly how long. We've got some people that just got off of reserve after about 3 months. And other are just now getting off after 3 years. So there's no exact answer. It is tending to be shorter now. You are contractually guarenteed to get 11 days off while on reserve.

Your monthly guarentee is 75 hours a month.

Hope this helps!
