As I understand it, you must remain a FO on the equipment you are hired into for 36 months. BUT, if upgrade goes less than 36 months, does that mean you can upgrade into any aircraft you can hold or only the aircraft you are "seat locked" into.

IE. If hired into CRJ and SAAB Captain opens 1 year later...can you upgrade into the SAAB?

I am speculating that a few CA slots may open up a year or so from now since Mesaba is doubling their current fleet and hiring alot of "low timers." Which reminds me, what is Mesaba's upgrade requirement??

Thanks in advance?

You are correct with the seat lock. Once you can hold it (and qualify for it) it's yours. You don't have to upgrade into the same airplane you were FO in. I think the upgrade minimums are 1,000 hours with the company or two years with the company, whichever comes first. This is all off the top of my head, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

There are two new vacancy awards coming out in the next couple weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if the upgrade will be at 3 years (or less) once they are out.

Simply put: you can upgrade into any aircraft as soon as your number is up, and you have your 1000 company hours. You are just locked from a sideways FO move.
