just wondering how life is like at little red, are there any interviews out there for someone who enjoys the flying and can't kick this bad habit. 30 something and is it to late in the game to think career?????

It depends on who you ask. No one's expectations are being met right now as far as their career goes, but there are a lot worse places you could end up at other than Mesaba. I think that once we have a contract, and we get out of this silly slump the industry's in, you'll be happy as heck here.
Now's everybody's chance to tell me I'm an idiot... I'd still apply here, I'd just have different goals, and maybe a day job if you're used to a certain lifestyle as far as money goes. Also, plan on commuting to MEM for at least a while.

"plan on commuting to MEM for awhile."

Yeah, because nobody in their right mind would ever leave MN to live somewhere that has no snow.

interview chances?

Ok, if the interview came and things went well would anyone in the state of the airline industry go for a position all things being =??

In a nutshell, Mesaba is pretty unstable, at least for now, but that doesn't necissarily (can anyone spell that word?) mean it's a bad place. You might get furloughed and we might find ourselves in a "work issue", but all in all I've had a great time for nearly 5.5 years and love the people I work with. Being at work is second only to being at home!

If you get offered the job and you can want to live or commute to MEM, go for it.

Things are never rosy when negotiations are happening, but in time they will get better. Even if you retire there, you should be better off than the average Joe.

If the flying is what will keeps you happy, and the pay is less than what you like, how long, for most of you who work there, will you keep your chin up? Are some of you CApts. and FOs thinking about the "what ifs"???

Are some of you CApts. and FOs thinking about the "what ifs"???

Yeah.....what if I would have gone to medical school?

what if I would have majored in something that's actually
usefull outside of aviation?

what if we had a management team with an IQ higher
than that of a circus monkey?

what if the whole world farted at once?

what if.....what if......what if..........................................

Ok, wise men..... Love to fly, busted ass, broke bank, job interview comes, say yes, love MEM , junkie Tuna and the chance to be in the pit with all the great aviators at little red. thanks to all and no more what ifsss......Never thought about the whole world farting, it got bad when three sky divers did could wait till the door opened...see ya

Now the latest word around the crew room is that there will NOT be a significant reduction in flying that everyone has anticipated. Avro flying has rumored to actually INCREASE and Saab flying stay about the same or just a little less than what it is now. I guess NWA figured that it's cheaper and profitable to fly around full/oversold Saabs than half empty DC-9s. So apparently hiring the 20 or so ppl has been justified and Mesaba should not be furloughing as expected in the fall. This all out of chief pilot's and HR's office. But as with everything in this business, we will wait and see.

As for the new hires, everyone is going down to MEM.... unless the senior folks wish to stay down there.

As for taking the job, in general, I would. (who else is hiring? comair? Mesa? the pickings are slim...) It's a seniority number down the road if you're furloughed and/or we go on strike. NWA and Pohlad have way too much invested in Mesaba. It's a game of poker and both sides are just waiting for the other to bluff. Things will turn around, but it will just have to get ugly before it gets better. Save up for that strike.............

Does anyone know if they have hired all the recruits they need or are they still seeking some more?
Had two letters of rec. walked in and waiting and hoping.
I can handle Memphis in the winter time. Since I am from the midwest. I guess that second job will be a necessity though.

I'd listen to T-handle. He always seems to know what's going on.

I don't know when our company plans to hire again but here is the address to send your resume to:

Attn: Kim Johnson
Mesaba Airlines
7501 26th Ave. S.
Minneapolis, MN 55450

Fax: 612-725-4902
Phone: 612-713-6176

Keep checking mesaba.com for any pilot job listings, things tend to happen at Mesaba with little or no notice at all.
Hope it helps and good luck!

a friend from my flight instructing days has been with little red a little over three years now, and I hear he just finished AVRO fo groundschool. that sucks.

sucks compared to what? being unemployed, furloughed, CFI'ing? Probably won't get a lot of sympathy being employed nowdays at any 121 operation. Sounds pretty rough.

I suppose 5 to 7 years from now, he'll be complaining they made him upgrade to Avro Captain too.

ha ha! :) Good rebuttle. I am sure he is all bummed out!
N-E-who....
