Interesting... they won't even talk to the mechanics and then this happens? I guess we know where the priorities are. Hmmm... conincidence that Sponge Bob in a former life was a dispatcher? Take care of your own I guess.
Let's try and figure this one out... 23 Dispatchers making... I really have no idea but lets say $35,000 per year each get a 5% raise. The raise equals $1750. $1750 times 23 people = $40250 per year more that Mesaba has to pay. Big fricken deal for Mesaba. $40250??? Thats only half of PF's travel bennies... (Disclaimer - $35,000/yr and 5% just used for the sake of argument. But the point is made.)
I'm not sure, but I suspect that Mesaba has a few more mechanics than dispatchers each wanting more than 5%. And I'm quite sure Mesaba had quite a few more pilots that wanted more than we got...
My hypothesis: LON ~ N i.e., Length of negotiations is directly proportional to the number of "greedy" laborers in each labor group. Now that's rocket science.
MM you make a good point. Perhaps their contract isn't as complicated as ours. THere are alot of variables I suppose. I honestly didn't even know they were up for a new contract! Now maybe they can focus MORE attention to the mechanics.
