I've only read negative things on this board about Mesa (wait a minute, just about everything here is negative) but I was wondering if there are any Mesa or ex-Mesa pilots that would like to share their experience with the company. Good, bad, whatever... Your opinions are much appreciated.

Or... You can wait for this thread to degenerate into Mesa bashing.

Looks like mine is the third post, so it should start up anytime now.

mesa the good and bad

good:
the pilots/crews you fly with are very easy going and wonderful people
there are a lot of people leaving each month, seniority should move up fairly quickly

bad:
amw - air midwest and beech flying out of BFE
longer upgrades than past
maintenance tends to be "shoddy" (esp. on the beech)
having to always check your paycheck to make sure your getting what should be coming to you

I've made the best of my time at Mesa so far and it has been fun. Flown with captains who love it and who hate it. The company could do better with improving complying with the contract we gave them but that is a work in progress. The training is better fine and there were many people willing to help whenever I went looking for help. I bid a junior base and have had the opportunity to fly a lot. I do not know much about the AMW side. I have friends at numerous regional who complain about the same things I do so it's just not Mesa. It's a great place to get your experience and get the hell out. Some people say upgrade is 4 years but I can't verify that. I do know that whatever it is, I'll upgrade much earlier than my flight instructors at other regionals. Of all things the one that is most offensive is when people who have no factual info or experience from Mesa come out and bash Mesa. People who have worked here may have a legitimate grief but others have to jump of the bangwagon. My say is that no matter where you go there will be issues you'd like to see better...keep a good attitude and you'll enjoy yourself. Someone asked me a while back about Mesa and I explained it is what you make of it. Well, he spoke to someone else and decided that Pinnacle was a better fit. He bashed Mesa and said some aweful things. Unfortunately, he did not make it through the training at Pinnacle and he happen to call me to see if I could recommend him for an interview. I explained that unfortunate I couldn't do so in good faith. Be careful what you say and who you say it to.

Wow, that's rough. I bet he'll never get that "prized interview" at mesa without someone like you to walk his stuff in.........

All the commuters/regionals suck. If there was a regional that paid $6/hr, required you to pay $30,000 for training, it would still not need to hire FOs off the street .. oh wait, that already exists and people are lined up around the block with cashiers checks in hand!

Everyone complains, but they would all rather be flying than sit behind a desk and get fat. :)

Mesa is like the old Iraq; Ornstein is a ruthless dictator like Sadam, the employees including the pilots are like Iraqi citizens with pathetically little ability to stand up to the dictarship. 8 days off in a 28 day period equates out to torture. And the rest of the industry (world) wonders what the evil nut case might do next.

Dude, you joined this board in 2001 and only have 355 TT? Get out of here! No one cares what you have to say.

As for Mesa. I have jumpseated on Mesa many times and found the crews to be really cool. But the fact of the matter is that Mesa pilots voted for the garbage contract they now have. They should have shoved it up Big O's @ss.
