N693BR...that was one of our new ones.....FlyI to flygo!

I'm behind on this one. What is iflyego or Ego? The web site does not work.

I just got back from Hawaii, and its kinda scary to hear every resort "praise" that there is a new airline in town with $59 tickets. I let everyone I talked to know just what J.O. is about and how he deals with employees. I saw one of their jets in Kauai when I left this morning.

I live in Kauai and regardless if Mesa is a Sh*tty company these islands really do need cheaper inter-island travel. Families cant afford to see each other for birthdays and holidays, regardless of Mesa's intentions and the destruction they are causing in aviation they really are doing hawaii residents a favor. At some point maybe pilots (like myself) will just have to eat ramen if they want to work/live in paradise. Flame away....

I got a tip for families that want to see each other frequently. DON'T MOVE TO A DIFFERENT ISLAND FROM WHERE YOUR FAMILY LIVES! Air travel is not a right. It is a privaledge that can be purchased.

Don't mean to be condescending, but seriously...You all live on a set of islands...expect tranport to be a problem. Secondly, both your home carriers went bankrupt "gouging" y'all.

So did you rush over for one of the 1000 FREE tickets that AQ gave away? It's great that everyone gets to fly outer-island for free now. Except for those of us that work here for companies that existed long before JO started wal-marting the inter-island market.

Somehow I doubt the $19 fares will continue once JO bleeds AQ out of business or gets HA to drop inter-island to focus on long-haul or gets WP to go back to it's four plane schedule never going past OGG. But, in the meantime you and all the aunties and uncles can party for as little as $19 each way.

By the way, didn't you say you wanted to work in the islands in the future? It won't happen if JO gets his way.

nice reasoning! yea i think i should be able to buy a brand new mercedes for 100 dollars..they're just too expensive otherwise.

maybe instead of thinking companies should sell their product for less than the cost to produce it, why dont you strive to make enough to afford the services you want to use?

thinking that the destruction is "ok" is pretty lame and evident of a self-serving attitude. maybe some day you'll get your chance to fast track your career at the next airline strike.

Move to California. Then you can drive the distance to see your family. Buy a boat who cares but for god sakes you live on an island you want to see your family who lives across a hundred miles of ocean you are gonna pay. Why should the pilots or the employees of the airline pay because of your choice of places to live.

I am in no way condoning what mesa is doing to potentially ruin aviation in hawaii, and certainly would never even considering crossing a line. But if I can fly Great Lakes from Denver to Ponca City BFE Oklahoma with three other passengers for cheaper than I can fly from Kauai to Honolulu and back something needs to be done. I myself dont have family on the islands I'm just an observer of the real residents here. Anyone kind of curious as to how the super ferry is going to effect our dream jobs in a couple of years? Maybe if they can find a way to keep fares reasonablel we wont loose our jobs completely.

If people want cheap fares, then the government ought to subsidize the service. People fly for next to nothing, and the airlines make money.

Also, if both interisland carriers have been gouging the customers, then where the f*** did all of the money go?

well, its a special version of reality only available to people without critical thinking skills. its called the world of irrational thought. you see, in this world you only have to take in to consideration the one topic you're thinking about. you dont have to consider other facts or circumstances, if you do you only have to consider the ones that make you believe in your ideas further and you ignore the ones that dont.

in this world, you wouldnt have to consider that the airlines are going in and out of BK and you cant go into BK if you're making money hand over fist.

.

The new air carrier's strategy is to make itself stand out as a different experience, whether it be with modern island tunes as background music, or a beverage menu with competitive prices.

Uhh, you go Mesa.

All Im saying is something needs to be done or we're all gonna be out of a job, I would love to see the government subsidize the airfare for hawaiian residents so atleast they can fly for a reasonable price....screw the tourists. It is kind of funny how no one has responded to the superferry, if that sh*t happens and works we wont even be flying for pennies on the dollar. Irrational thinking?

IMHO the super ferry will most definitely affect the bottom line for the airlines. Will it ruin interisland airfare altogether? No way. Look at the travel time from OGG to HNL. For people only traveling for 1 day, travel time is too long. Now, factor in the Kaiwi channel, sea sickness, etc. There will be a number of people who will travel by air no matter what (especially with $39 fares).

I agree but it is a catch 22, lower the fares so people fly and the airline makes no money = pilots make no money. Raise fares so the airline makes money and it is too expensive for people to fly and the airline makes no money = pilots make no money. A middle ground must be met and the might mean our pay is lowered yet again, the superferry just adds another x factor to our already unstable industry. IMO partially subsidized airfares for Hawaiian residents would be a good middle ground. It isnt like it will be the first time the government has helped out an airline. And if the government wants to keep its laissez fair mentality they can think of it as helping out their citizens, not the airline....but what do I know, I'm just a pilot*.

I would love to take my car to the big island for a week or so. But I get seasick just cruising out in K-Bay. Guess I'll continue to fly and rent my ride.

Well almerick, why don't you get with the program and sign up with AirApps? Mesa is desperate for pilots. Then you can come back to Hawaii and be part of making a difference out here. Sure beats just talking about it on these forums, or flying cancelled checks for Air Net or getting your time .2 hours at a time circiling above Kaena Point.

http://www.mesa-air.com/ Mesa Air Group is seeking captains and first officers for immediate openings in the Northeast and 200 pilots by the end of July. Captains must meet ATP certification requirements and have a written ATP. First officers must meet minimum requirements. Click here to apply.
