When I taxied into MDW yesterday, there was a 1900(N135YV) sitting on the ramp across from the Southwest hangar with no prop blades on the left hub. Seems a little strange since most props are exchanged with the hub and blades attached. Anyone know if this was some sort of incident?

It was.. apparently the tug got caught in jet blast and was spun around causing the front of the tug to contact the running #1 engine.

No injuries, thank goodness, but the blades on #1 were ripped off and the tug was pretty banged up..

Yo,
Bet it was a messa 50 doing a crossbleed start. Whoda thought a MEl'd APU would cause the prop blades on a 1900 to fly off?
Go-messa

Wait a minute! What kind of tugs are mesa using? No tug I've ever seen would be moved easily by jet blast from a B777 much less a CRJ, which has engines that sit 15' in the air and point up. I declare shenanigans!

What a dork. If you knew anything about Mesa you'd know we don't fly a "Mesa 50" into MDW. We don't fly in there alltogether. Some people's children:rolleyes:

Kind of like the tug that was pulled up in the air by a tail heavy exNWA 747?

I would wager a guess that the 1900 in MDW was a Big Sky A/C.

heard from a realiable source it was two four stripers from AMW who started an engine while being pushed/tugged (against company policy) and it contacted the tug. i imagine the two will lose their jobs. keep in mind any tug with the 1900 is a very rare event, we only used them in TPA (which was a job saver for USAirways ground personnel) and PHX when i was there.

Welll$hitstain,
I don't know much about messa, actually its more than I would like. Check around the crew room for the idiot who did a crossbleed start in the ORD "F" alley, seems that a baggage cart and a bunch of pax were blown around and some were hurt. Dork, yup, a$$hole yes, I dont take myself seriously, and I take messa even less seriously.

I was based in ORD at the time and was at the airport the day that happened... and once again, you are incorrect, thats not how the story went. Crossbleed had nothing to do with it... it was during taxi in. I've parked at the same gates as that Mesa plane and it was only a matter of time before that happened... ever parked at a UAX F-terminal gate? If you have, you know why. Thanks again, as usual, for contributing nothing of value to flightinfo. Twice in one thread... congrats.

Well$hitstainII,
Whatever, story you wanna go with, crossbleed, taxi in, it's still messa doing stupid stuff. Wow you have parked at the same gate as messa. As far as UAX-f terminal parking, lessee I had the misfortune of parking at the "f" gates before ORD was a SKYW domicile. Now go back to to your computer program that figgers your projected upgrade time and senority at retirement calculator, rub one off while dreaming about flying a 737. Now for contributing "nothing of value to flightinfo", I am now validated, I wasted your time and that makes me smile, here is #3.

Nice!

135YV is a big sky aircraft. They start both engines while pushing back.

Sorry for the thread title confusion...I just woke up from a deadhead slumber and looked out the window and saw the YV with no props and assumed it was a Mesa bird.
