Hello,
Correct me if I am wrong!!! A student approached me to do an instrument rating. He has a private pilot rating (SEL and MEL). He ownes a twin and a single. If I remember correctly, he may get an instrument rating in the single-engine but he has to take another checkride in the twin to get multi-engine instrument rating.
If he takes the instrument checkride in a twin, he has an instrument rating in the Twin only. He still has to take a checkride in the single to have Single Engine-instrument privilages.

Thanks for the help, Hogan

I am pretty sure what you stated about having to take two instrument check rides, one for SEL and one for MEL, is correct. One of the FAR gurus will surely chime in and set us straight otherwise.

So he owns a single and a twin? He's got too much money, tell him to share the wealth! :D :D :D

I can speak from experience on this one, I did all multi training after my private single, I took the multi private add-on, then instrument(multi),then Comm Multi w/inst. pivilages, then Comm Single Add-on
Bottom line is Multi gives you instrument on both for one check ride

REALLY??? That's awesome, because I always thought with the instrument you have to get 2 different checkrides - one for single and one for multi even if you do multi first.
