Hey guys,

I know I posted it awhile ago but just want to bring it back up. The fight for Meigs continues and just wanted to bring up the petition again. So far over 10,000 signatures have been collected and I will continue to remind the politicians in Illinois about it as it keeps getting larger. Here's the link to the petition for those that haven't signed it yet:

Also, visit the Friend's of Meigs Field site and if at all possible, donate to the legal defense fund to help take the case to the Illinois Supreme Court. They need to raise an additional $50K by Friday to file the case. I know a lot of you may not have a lot of money to spare at the moment, but every dollar will count. Visit their website here:

How will any of this matter......?

I mean if the Chicago Parks department is under no legal obligation to renew the lease with the city, the only folks that make out in any of this are (as usual) the attorneys.

What exactly is going to be claimed in the lawsuit?

Again, I think Daly had his ducks in a row. I don't agree with the methodology, but IMO the closure of the airport will stand up to any legal challenge.

easrAEV

are we allowed to perform short field t/o's and landings between the lines of destruction? Could we parctice simulated engine out procedures?

If I we're getting an instrument rating..and even if I wasn't, I'd be doing MULTIPLE practice approaches there like mad. Heck, wouldn't even have to coordinate with the tower. AFAIK, the approches have are still there, right?

Personally....

Personally, I don't give a damm about Megis field. I even wrote a letter to AOPA stating that I won't renew my membership because if they're willing to waste 40 million bucks on megis field then AOPA doesn't have their priorities straight. I would MUCH rather see AOPA put some elbow grease into really fighting the bull$hit TSA rule. I will not support somebody who will blow lots and lots of $$$ on a little airport that I will never use and do nothing to get rid of power hungry government burrecurats. Don't get me wrong, what Daly did was pretty $hitty, but brother, there are MUCH bigger fish to be fried.

The future of Meigs field was written in stone 10 years ago when Daley mad his intentions clear that he wants to shut it down.

Daley wants a third airport in addition to Midway and O'Hare. This is a huge political batle with Billions of dollars at stake.

Meigs is dead.

What? Daley is solidly against a Peotone airport. Chicago would get very little financially from a third airport outside the City. Why do you think he fought tooth and nail against Peotone? He solely wants O'Hare expansion to increase air-traffic. Plus, he got his wish since he got Gov. Blagojevich to remove the wording for a Peotone airport when the airport bill was finally passes in the Illinois Congress. It removed the Meigs language as well as any language regarding the construction of a third airport.

That's pretty short sighted.

AOPA is fighting for Meigs because it sets precedent...
If it's that easy for a city to close that airport, any city will be able to arbitrarily close any airport, maybe even yours.

This fight against Daley is the very fight against "power hungry government buerocrats" you mention.
