I know there is a place for medical questions on here but i asked this question a few days ago and have had no response. I have a limitation on my medical that states not valid for any class 1 year from the date it was issued. Just wondering if this is going to hurt me on the interview process when I say the limitation is due to cancer.

If I may ask, are you in remission?

Nope. If you have a valid, current medical, that should be all that matters. You'd have to get a new medical every year anyway, so why would an airline care? I wouldn't bring it up unless they ask about it, which they most likely won't.

I have a similar limitation on mine as well. I'm not in the flying business anymore, but for what its worth, I had been hired and was working for Comair with that limitation. So I really wouldn't worry about it. As long as you have a current medical, you should be OK.

Yes for almost 5 yars now.

Then I doubt it would be a problem. Just tell them straight up what happened, that's if they ask, which they probably won't.

Lots of airlines require a first class when you start, but I can see them bending on this one. If they don't, you don't want to work there anyhow.

Glad you're in remission.

Seeing as the limitation is temporary, I don't think it will cause you too much trouble. It's easily explained, and your interviewer should be able understand that you will be able to get a first class when your limitation expires.

Given the personal obstacle you've had to face, I imagine you'll win a few points in an interview for sticking with it through some tough times. Shows that your serious. I wouldn't worry much about it at all.

Common limitation

There are a lot of professional pilots out there with that limitation on their medical due to cancer, heart conditions, blood sugar, etc. Especially amongst the older pilot population. FAA just wants to make sure they check up on you a certain tine intervals.

They probably won't ask - but if they do and then they don't hire you then you may be coming into some money shortly. It's the same reason any employer shouldn't ask about the status of your diseases in the hiring process - because they can't discriminate against you because of them. If you hold the medical they require for the job that's all they need to know.
