Medical question about "Letter of Evidence"

I have a colorvision deficiency. My medical is clear after I took the signal light gun test at the local airport and passed. My question is: Would the airlines hire me with this "Letter of Evidence"? The FAA issued it to me after I passed the test, but it is in my medical records. When I go for my next medical and the AME tests my color vision (Ishiahara Plates), I will show him the letter and this will allow me to bypass the color vision test. I never need to take the color vision test again.

For this medical issue they used to issue SODA's (Statement of demonstrated ability) a while ago. Now they changed it to the LOE.

I heard that the airlines have their own AME's, would they accept the Letter from the FAA? And what kind of color vision test do they use? What are chances of getting hired with this document from the FAA?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
Many airlines still hire with SODA's, so I would assume the LOE would be the same. My understanding is that a LOE or SODA is not a waiver nor a restriction, so if thats the case it wouldn't even have to be mentioned in the first place. If the airline requires you to take a physical exam you will want to show them your LOE. There may be a few airlines out there that are still restrictive about hiring with these but for the most part its not a big deal.

You are good to go. Having the letter is much better than the SODA.

I have a SODA for defective color vision and never even mention it on a resume. I'll write it in on an application and if someone asks me about it I'll explain, otherwise it doesn't concern me in the slightest. You have a 1st(I assume) class medical with "No Limitations". If you don't you should tell your AME to make sure it states that on the medical in the limitations box. Some guys like to place a limitation on the medical that says something about the SODA, but I've been told (and my AME backs it up) that there is no requirement for it. No limitations is the only thing I mention.

If I remember correctly, when Continental was hiring, one of their requirements was a medical and no SODA's. So, the letter would be better there, but thats about the only place I've seen that requirement. The SODA isn't bad and like the above poster said, only have to report it if specifically asked to do so.
