Ok, I need some help here.
A guy who has been flying since the 30's doesn't have a current medical, but wants to go up to see if he can still fly before he finds out whether he can pass the medical or not.
Does he need a medical to fly if I act as the PIC as a CFI?
61.23(a)(3)(i) says he needs at least a 3rd class IF he's exercising the privileges of his certificate. Is he exercising those priveleges, or is he just manipulating controls under the supervision of an instructor?
61.23(a)(3)(iii) says the same thing about exercising privileges of a student pilot certificate. Again, same question?
61.3 (c)(1) - he seems to be ok here since he won't be the PIC or a required crew member.
This leads to another medical question. Do pilots need current medical certs for flight reviews? They aren't acting as PIC.
Fairly confused,
Eric
I'm off to Doc's FAR forum to search for clues.
