I just found out for sure that CAL is now using the 737 for their sim eval. I did my prep in the MD-80. What should I expect.

My guess and that is all it is:

Whatever sim is available probably a 737 round dial or efis. I believe the 737 EFIS was downgraded and can't be used for any FAA type of check rides which I believe includes annual recurrent AQP training.

I would plan on the same profile you were prepped on in any aircraft with manual throttles and the use of a F/D. Just try to concentrate on basic flying skills. Don't let a mistake ruin your ride verbalize your error and press forward and don't let it effect the rest of your ride. I'm sure you got the most important part out of your sim prep your scan is up to speed and you are now (if not already) used to raw data.

Good luck and relax!

The CAL mantra is verbalize, verify and monitor.

i would expect it to very mechanical in nature with no surprises...just like your MD-80 sim prep. takeoff, cleanup, climb, level at a fixed speed, vectors for holding, descend, configure, ILS, land.

if it's the 300 EFIS sim then it's a dual cue flight director (crosshair type). if it's the 300 round dial (non-EFIS) then it's a single cue (roof on the house V-bar type). it's easy to fly both styles as they are very intuitive.

show confidence and some command authority and you'll be fine. just like you'd fly the line with a Fed in the jumpseat.

try to relax and enjoy the experience. i know it's stressful, but they put you very much at ease and want to see you perform well.

You're basically going to be flying the flight director. The only trick that you'll have to deal with is figuring out a hold entry shortly after takeoff. The 737-300 sim is the sim that I'd want to do maneuvers in. Jmho.

The flight profile is the same that you prepped in the MD-80. The callouts will be similar but easier and less verbose.

The guys that do the sim eval are AWESOME and they will set you at ease.

Only to reiterate! He is exactly correct. If you make a mistake, recognize it, then VERBALIZE it and Correct it!!! They have absolutely no problem with that (unless it's a HUGE altitude bust or something like that!) It's very laid back and whoever sits FO (or captain seat, whichever you choose) will do whatever you ask, aside from actually flying the ride for you! LOL

Good luck!
