Real quick

Sorry if these are silly questions, BUT-->
  • Is the MD-80 series ETOPS approved? This will be for a Part 91 operator, flying from US East Coast to Europe, via ?????? fuel stops.
  • What is the nonstop range for an MD-80, real-world, with say half-PAX and half-cargo loading?
  • How many flight attendants would be required for this airplane?
  • What is the minimum runway requirement for an MD-80, real-world?
THANKS

You're kidding right? If you are serious about using an MD80 for etops, are you really going to use information from the yo yo's on this board. Go do some REAL research.

dude this is prelim info-gathering, I aint going out and writing a check for an MD-80 anytime soon

You have to ask yourself these questions, What does ETOPS stand for?, Where in part 91 would you find ETOPS?, How does one fly a single engined Cessna across the pond?

If you don't know the answers to these questions, then leave the Mad Dog alone before we read about you in the papers.

I do not know the answer... but this is not the place to ask.. go on the corporate board those guys would better know.. then as a last resort only consult the fars I don't know if it's part 91 or 125... I suspect it is but I don't know what limitations there would be

it ain't me that will be flying it, again, just a question. I recently learned that under Part 91, ETOPS does not apply, I assumed it did for large turbine aircraft.

keep the good info coming ERJ-145mech

Until an expert can speak on it, I can say that the 80 cannot ever be ETOPs compliant due to numerous systems requirements, especially electrics. We've spent a lot of money getting our old 757s compliant and even so the oldest will never be. TWA used to run 80s with the 162 mile offshore exemption, but that's something different.

First, the MD80 would need to be operated under FAR Part 125, but apply for a Part 91 exemption if that's how you plan on operating it. Second, under Part 91, no ETOPS. (More important question, is the MD80 MNPS certified?) Third, greater than19 seats, 1 flight attendant, 50 or more, 2 f/a's, then add another f/a each 50 seats over 100. As for stops, plan Keflavik if you aren't MNPS certified and you haven't added more fuel tanks, you won't get above FL280.

Actually, we used to fly them using the 60 min. rule. I used to regularly fly them BOS-SJU and back. As long as we had LRN and rafts, we were OK.
