Does anyone have any info on their flight department. Just curious about the equipment, pay schedules and bennies? Thanks!

Just amazing jets and helicopters, all are beautiful. From what I've heard the schedule sucks. I heard (maybe wrong) that a new hires made 75k. I believe they have a couple Gulfstreams (2 IV's, and 2 V's) and 4 Falcon 2000's. They also have 2 S76's. I can tell you in the summer you go to RKD, a lot, 2 or 3 times a week. Oh yeah the requirements were somthing like 4000tt and 2000 jet, or somthing like that, I had a talk with a couple of their pilots at DOV one day and he liked working for them.

P.S. Some of that info may be wrong, it's been a long time sence I've talked to any of there pilots.

don't you mean rockland maine? not rdk?

I talked with a guy on their Falcon last year. Seemed to like it. I remember him saying he got his schedule 6 pm the night prior, I don't know days on/off etc.
He was an AA furlough.

Were you in DOV for the races? Fighting with the rest of us shlobs for the Crew Car to get a greasy pizza?

I interviewed with MBNA around 1995-96, when they had Westwinds and a Citation III. Don't know how things are there now, but back then they kept their pilots on a very short leash - lots of unscheduled duty time. Their hangar was very impressive though.

Bank Of America just bought MBNA today for 35B Soooooooooooo what does that means for the flight dept?

BofA, aka Nations Bank, aka The Bank of Italy ...

I could well be wrong, but I've been led to believe that BofA is not strongly aviation oriented. I believe they operate two GVs and that's it. If that's the case, say bye bye to Mellon Bank's flight operation. Sad ...

This is what landings.com came up with for B of A ownership. MBNA has a similarily sized fleet including a helicopter or two, one of which was lost in the East River a few weeks ago. Bank conglomeration is the latest fad it seems so researching what has happened as a result of past mergers may offer a small crumb of prediction. I hope they keep every airplane and, therefore, every pilot but that's probably a long shot.

Or we could wait until GVflyer logs in and offers his always well infromed .02 regarding such matters.

Lastly, is it me or are we all going to be banking at the solitary Nationsbank of America Chase Wells Fargo MBNA Bank of the Universe in a few more years?!!!!

BofA has a big flight dept in CLT. I dont know too many details, but they have a big hangar and quite a few airplanes.

I hate MBNA like GVFlyer hates Coca-Cola;)

I used to be based at ILG, and you could tell that they were going to get sold about two years ago. About 18 months after Al Lerner passed away, they forced their CEO into early retirement and things started to change. A few of the planes were up for sale, they got rid of that greedy money green logo, and started advertising for the first time. They seemed to be a more friendly company right then and there. Before that you had never witnessed a more arrogant company. The stories about their CEO were local legend and the guy was a known neurotic. He was God himself, in his own mind. This is not speculation I know a ton of people there. Living in DE, you either work there or know someone who does. If your ever there the hangar towards the road across from there houses the old CEO's car collection, if it's open look in there, you be pretty amazed at what you'll see.

As for the flight department good pay was all could be said about them. Schedule was brutal and only in the last few years had good things come out of there. The aircraft were cleanest a/c I have ever seen, but speaking from experience they ran the place like the Nazi's ran Auchwitz. None of their employees were allowed to talk to anyone but company guests, even if it was just to say hello. The line guys even had to wear aircraft carrier style helmets on the ramp. Nevertheless, it's good to see all of their guys made it out of that crash up in NYC. I hope the one pilot is recovering well.

It'll be nice if Bank of America makes it better for MBNA's employees, my brother works for them and gets treated pretty well. That was the one thing about MBNA though, you sure did make a lot of money but man did you work for it.

Avweb has 2 DA2000's, 3GV's and some QS 2000's listed for BA.
I know at least one of their G's is a 550.

Two G550's -5007 and 5031 and a late model GV, sn# 640.

I flew with the guys at MBNA for an STC on one of their A/C. George S., chief pilot for the former CEO's jet is an amazingly cordial guy. The leadership for the regular flight department is former USAF and runs the place like a special ops squadron.

It will be interesting to see how that corporate culture merges with Fred's rather relaxed outfit at Charlotte, if it merges. Nationsbank/ B of A has had a history of consolidation with mergers. I don't believe that FleetBoston has their Challenger anymore.

Back in the late 90's when I was a lineman at KHTO they would fly there G-4 in there every weekend just about. Really nice pilots and they never once failed to tip me , very well I might add. Do they still fly Al's son Randy around anymore he was a nice guy as well.

Last time I was down at CLT there was a black 727 parked on their ramp, do they charter that for a shuttle? It's always there maybe it's for the hornets or the panthers? Anyway, I've always heard that BoA were good people to work for. Hopefully, the merger will create a few more jobs in the flight dept:)
