hi everyone. i wanted to see if any of you out there have attended Mazzei flight school out in Fresno, CA. Their website is http://www.flymfs.com/ . At a party last night my friend had mentioned that I should look into going there with my low flight time and desires to get my PPL thru ATP. It's odd... they say they offer free housing, which is unheard of anywhere else. I think the stipulation is that you have to finish in a certain amount of time... or else... I was worried that this place might be too similar to other pay-for-training places I was looking at, like Delta Connection and the like.

So if anybody has any feedback, I'd appreciate it!

Actually, when I was considering a flight school back in 1998, MFS was one of my top choices. Its a family run operation and I've heard nothing but good things about them. The owner (I think his name is Jim) is a standup guy [and the examiner I think].

There was a site, ufly.com or something w/ forums that had a good amount of info on them.

I haven't heard a single thing posted about them in awhile, so I don't know how the situation is there now.

vik, where'd you end up going for your flight training if you didn't go to mazzei?

Sunrise Aviation (SNA)

Its the best training you'll ever get. It is the in the "Ivy Leagues" for flight training. It is not the cheapest, but the Owner and CP are extremely dedicated to training and have developed all the material on their own. They have both numerous awards and Sunrise also does a lot of aerobatics (the largest aerobatic fleet west of the Mississippi I think).

I did my multi-add on at All ATPs because Sunrise's twin was down (and still is). But for the private, instrument and commercial single-engine, Sunrise is the place to go. The CFI program is extremely rigorous and will make you a great instructor.

i went to mazzei for my inst, comm, and cfi during 2000-2001. I did lots of research and determined mazzei fit the bill. Package prices are very reasonable especially w/ housing. Fleet is older but well maintained and pretty good dispatch rate. Family run operation, nice people, and great places to fly w/in an hour. Just be sure you understand the guarantee package b/c it makes you think that you are protected. When I was there it was $1000 extra. In my opionion, it was not worth it. PM if you have any further questions.

Mazzei Flying Service

I was very satisfied with the training that I received at Mazzei. I was also there 2000-2001. They had good group of quality instructors. I'm sure they still have the same standards. Housing was included for a predetermined time. If it took you longer to get through the program, you had to pay extra out of your pocket. Still pretty reasonable.

hey asolo,

i was there at the same time...who are you?
hey flylike44, do you have anything you might want to add? how was your experience there? worth the money? did you feel the instruction was good?

i enjoyed my time at mazzei. the training was excellent (don't know who's instructing there now) and the price was fair. pm me if you have any specific questions.

A (not so)SOLO

Asolo was the worst student I ever had! And I was the worst instructor Jim B ever had, LOL Just kiddin Benny.

I did my Pvt thru MEI then instructed there from 1999-2001. Asolo is right if you study and don't goof off you won't need the garuntee(sp) . Jim Branhan is the owner and he is a DE but he generaly didn't do checkrides, when I was there he had Joe S. do them, by the way Joe is a great guy and an excellent human type person;) .

I haven't a clue who is instructing there now. Thank God Caveman AKA Cirlce K is at Comair torturing FO's.

Talk to Jim or Jerry P. over there and schedule a visit they usally put you up in one of the apartments.

Take Care

I have a friend who went there 2 years ago and got his inst thru cfII. He enjoyed

his time there and was happy with the school. As long as you don't let others distract you, it's like anything else, your living with like minded people who can help you.
