We stay at Marriotts whenever possible and my boss [the captain] pays for our expenses and accommodation with his company credit card. As a result I don't qualify for any Marriott rewards because the card paying for my room is not in same name as the person staying in the room [usually me].

This does not make any sense because for our airline rewards system [when paxing] it doesn't matter who pays for the ticket it's the person travelling who gets the points.

My boss only qualifies for points on his room charges also.

My question is what, if anything do you guys do in order to gain reward points.

Marroitt said to me that companies don't qualify for rewards anyway so I didn't want to push it with them although I sometimes do get rewards points.

Your comments would be appreciated

We use our Corporate AMEX Cards to pay for our rooms, we always get full points at Marriott's... If you have a rewards number, they should give you the points...

#1 Who ever pays for the room/S/ gets credit for nights stayed towards retaining current status. Obtains points on the $ amount spent. #2 Whoever pays has option to collect on up to 2 other rooms in total amount of rooms booked.
Kiwi is being effed out of marriott points period!

When I have been in this situation I have simply called down later and asked to verify that my rewards account has the credit for my stay. When they indicate that it hasn't, I simply give them my rewards account number and WA-LAH! I now have the points on my next statement.

My hotels and airlines are paid for by my company. The reservations are in my name. So, all rewards (AA, Hertz, CO, Avis, Marriott, Hilton, etc.) get awarded to me.

It should work the same for you provided he is not using his personal credit card for payment.

I hand them two cards when I check in; my company's credit card and my very own Marriott Rewards card. I get the rewards points:D and the company pays for my hotel :)

In a former company, the captain would pay for both rooms and the front desk person would be handed both of our rewards cards and we both got points.

Look into the Marriott Rewards platinum Visa C/C. Depending on the promotion they may be running, you can sometimes get double points for your stay. Also, anything else you buy accrues points at a rate of one point per dollar.

Thank you very much guys. here is the reply I got from Marriott when I asked why I didn't recieve any points.

Quote

"Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.

I have researched your stays at the Las Vegas Marriott Suites and the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and found they were both on a masterbill for your company.

Point accrual in the Marriott Rewards program is limited to individual
travel. In order for your stays to qualify for credit in the Marriott
Rewards program, all reservations and payments must be made in your
name.

If a member attends a convention or group meeting and individually
pays the Marriott hotel directly for the room, he/she will be eligible
to receive points for the stay. However, contract rooms, rooms
reserved by corporations on an ongoing basis, and master-billed rooms
are not eligible to earn points. Wholesale packages and series tours
booked through a travel agent are not eligible for points.

Group billings, master account billings and travel packages are,
therefore, ineligible for credit.

To assure that your stays are credited to your account, please provide
your Marriott Rewards account number at the time that you make your
reservation, so that this is reflected on your reservation confirmation, as well as presenting your card at the time that you check into the hotel.

I hope this information clarifies our program. Your loyal patronage
of Marriott is important to us and we look forward to our next
opportunity to serve you.

Sincerely,

Niki Hovanes

So you see my problem It's the "master billed" room story. I'll try what Tankerpuke reccommends. What Sidesaddle said with regards to their former company is the same situatuation as I am in so it does not make sense.

Thanks again for your replies.

What I always used to do is call down after I've checked in and asked them to make sure that my name is on the room "just in case" people try to call me.

Then when I check out, I ask them for a "Zero Balance" copy of my room bill... which happens to have my name on the top corner.

I then call Marriott Rewards and fax them the copy of the bill along with my Rewards number. My account is instantly credited for the reward points without any hassle whatsoever.

Good luck!

The worst one for not giving you your points is the Hilton program. I have had many an arguement with them.

As to a master bill, you will not get points.

With Marriot I have called down later to get my number put in the system. I've also had them give it to me with no-hassle. The capt. carries an AMEX card with the bussiness name on it. It just seems to depend on where I'm at. Right now I'm at the Hilton in BOS and they gave me crap about it. I argued with her and then she said, the computer just won't accept the number. BS! I'm giving stop by the front desk shortly to make sure I gave them my reward number...usually works everytime!

WHAT??? I've never run into that problem

We both chk in @ Mariotts... we present our mariotts cards...and we both get credit for our stay.... the credit card has the other capts name on it.... and I have never run into any problems gettin my points... even though the reservation is under the other person's name.

The only place where I have actually got the points is Los Angeles. At least 5 other places won't credit me the points.

Strange.

Thats all fine and well till you manage to actually get to a Marriott thats................outside of the CONUS

Sometimes its a good practice to avoid Marriotts overseas anyhow...

They are usually on the lower end of quality (Hyatts,Interconts are usually better) and lets face it, they are a definite symbol of America...so they are potential terrorist targets..remember Indonesia?

"Security"...just another reason to have the boss swing for the Ritz-Carlton...

:)

The Marriotts that won't give me rewards are Wailea Marriott [both of them in Maui], Waikoloa [in Kona], Las Vegas and Surfers Paradise [in Australia]. Go figure.

By the way the Surfers Paradise Marriott is Quite a good one, much better than the Sheraton Mirage.

I just checked my points on the Web.

Go figure. I have received points from Marriott Waikoloa Beach {kona}, payment etc was no different from the previous three stays in Maui?
