Yeah...

you can make an All Star team from the players that the Mariners give up.

Johnson's "back problems" have really held him back.

Whoops. Started a new thread on this 'cause I didn't see this one.

Oh well, probably deserves two threads. Don't see that happen very often!

What a show indeed.... Caught the 8th and 9th and he really had his "stuff" going tonight. I think if he can pull off a total of 17 wins this year he will pass up like 6 or 7 HOF pitchers for all-time wins. With his intense off season conditioning routine he probably has another 2 to 3 years left being "competitive" at this level should he choose to stick around.

what a show...

3 5 0

now 4 - 4 so watch out.:D

I couldn't believe some of those breaking balls......88-90 MPH!! and this was AFTER he'd thown 100 pitches.

Batters were swinging at the same pitches that the catcher was having a hard time catching.:D

The sad thing: Just this morning on PHX local radio and yesterday in the paper the rumors were flying about the D-backs needing to trade Johnson. He has a "no-trade" clause in his contract, but that was the talk.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the season.

No-No

That is an amazing feat! 40 and throws a perfect game. Nolan Ryan threw a no-no when he was 43 but it wasn't a perfect game.

It goes to show that if an athelete takes great care of their body, they can play a while. Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Ricky Henderson are perfect examples.

The Big Unit is awesome! He seems to keep getting better - although he has been really great for a long time. If they trade him, that will make the people of PHX really mad, because we have already lost some great players. Although the Babybacks are coming along nicely. It will be really interesting to see how this progresses over the next couple of years.

I'm a HUGE D-Backs fans, but the reality is this: Trade Johnson and build for the future.

That crap about Phoenix fans just isn't true. A few would bitch and moan about Johnson's departure, but that would soon pass in a matter of days.

Want proof?

Johnson vs. Glavine last week. Two of the finest lefties in the game and only 20 something thousand came out to see the game. Phoenix has some of the most fair weather fans out there.

Johnson would have to waive his no trade clause, but I honestly think he'd do it. Baseball is a business through and through.

I am glad to say that I witnessed history on May 18, 2004 with Johnson's perfect game. A rare feat indeed!

You know what Colangelo and Garagiola, Jr. witnessed?

A more marketable pitcher to trade off. The asking price just went up.

I really don't think that after creating the "Milwaukee Diamondbacks" to acquire Richie Sexson in order to try to secure a better record THIS season, we should be dumping the Unit..... especially when the rest of our pitching staff is sucking so bad.

Work on getting some good pitchers, work on the hitting, and get Sexson back in the lineup (which just might take care of #2). If we need to trade the Big Unit, let's wait until next year (or until this season is REALLY blown, and I'm not willing to say that just yet)......one more thing....Bob Brenly is doing pretty dam good with what he's got....he doesn't need to go anywhere.

Fair weather fans? Yeah, I'm afraid you're right....but it's still a fairly new team and given the other sports teams in Phoenix ($hitty), I don't blame people for being a little "jaded."

I'll tell you what, though....if you're looking for the hottest female fans at any baseball park in these United States.....ya gotta go to Bank One Ballpark!:)

the Pirates did somethign like this a few year back, ten years back...saying they were "rebuilding"...look at the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** hole we're in now...don't rebuild, keep shooting the guns that got you there...

Hey nothing beats sitting in Wrigley Fields's left field bleachers, drinking an Old Style with fun bags bouncing up and down everywhere you look ...Go Cubs!

First of all, Tempe Arizona has the hottest chicks per capita on the face of the planet...and this is not just an opinion...it's true.

Tempe is about six miles from Bank One Ballpark. If you have any doubts...watch a home game on TV....you'll see what I mean.

Second....on behalf of all Diamondbacks fans everywhere....we're very sorry for KICKING YOUR A$$ in BOTH SERIES so far this year!:D

I've got a good friend who's a cubs fan....he hasn't spoken to me since April 26th......man, you guys are moody!

Sqwkvfr,

I like your enthusiasm, but you need to worry about the Dodgers for now, then talk to us in September, if you're around.:D

Ah, you Cubs fans....I was in MSP for the Twin's home opener a couple of years ago.....(yeah, yeah...it was for the road trip...there was something like 5,000 people there)...with my aforementioned "Cubs fan" buddy and three other guys.

They were playing the Marlins....we had seats very low in shallow left field....one of the Florida guys scooped up a foul ball and was running sorta toward us...My buddy stood up and started yelling, "come on, Vaughn, throw the ball buddy, toss me the ball!"

The VERY INSTANT that Vaughn turned away without throwing the ball, The cubs fan let loose with a nearly 30-second-long string of profanities that so loud and obscene the rest of us were glad the we had spread out away from each other in the surrounding empty seats (originally for comfort) such that we might not be associated with our foul-mouthed friend.

I looked around and saw mothers covering their children's ears, old ladies ducking whenever he unleased an "f"-bomb and othewise disgusted looks.

The pottymouth just sat down as if nothing had happened, took a bite from his "dome dog" and took another pull from his beer.

The rest of us looked at each other in amazement...after a few seconds, one of the other guys in our group confronted him:

"Hey Mark?"

(still chewing on Dome Dog) "humf?"

"Do ya mind toning it down a little bit...ya know, for us?"

Mark looked around at us in disbelief and said..."You guy have never been to Wrigley Field, have ya?"

:D
