I love stories like this! The bleeding hearts are thinking somehow his rights have been violated and there was unnecessary use of force, yadda yadda.

I'm itchin' to be on a flight like this so I have my turn to tackle and restrain some idiot who thinks he doesn't have to follow the rules. How dare him disrupt everyone's travel and compromise safety. He'd definitely receive a few unexpected jabs and a broken jaw to boot.

You can tackle someone on an RJ?

Have Americans suddenly become thinner or something?

Pax on a SWA flight killed a pax...... not sure they meant to kill him... would you take it to death?

If he won't, I will!
Nothing short of eye gouging, hair pulling, biting, wet willies, swirly, wedgies, camel clutch, flying suplex, chicken wing, scissor kicks, tooth extraction, flogging, foot roasting, branding, kneecapping, rat torture, scalping, tar and feathering.....you know, just the basics.

But then I'm sure you're all for protecting their civil rights.

Here's what happened.

From Tribune News Services
September 17, 2000
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- A teenage passenger who became combative on a Southwest Airlines flight was killed by the passengers who restrained him, not by a heart attack as authorities first believed, an autopsy concluded.

The U.S. Attorney's Office described Jonathan Burton's Aug. 11 suffocation as an act of self-defense by passengers and said it would not file criminal charges.

Burton, 19, of Las Vegas, hit other passengers and pounded on the locked cockpit door. Up to eight passengers subdued him. Burton died after being removed from the plane in Salt Lake City.

Family lawyer Kent Spence said he "was strangled, beaten and kicked. We'd like to know how this could have happened."

I'd say the other passengers did the right thing. Apparently, so did the US. Attorney's Office, too.

Not really..... just because criminal charges were not filed doesn't mean the situation could have been handled differently and/or better. Then again.. I wasn't there.. and I wasn't on the PCL flight..... Not sure what the bravado chest bumping chatter is all about.

I would start with an "Iron Claw."

Definitely yes.

I would use a degree of force necessary to restrain the person. If he is still struggling to get to the cockpit, then I would have no problem with using lethal force to stop the guy.
Taking one scumbags life in exchange for saving the lives of everyone on board and any innocent bystanders is a no brainer.

Air travel isn't the same as it once was since people are using airplanes to fly into buildings. The traveling public has had enough. Passengers are willing to fight to protect the aircraft they're in.
Rez, you and your liberal friends are an embarrassment to this Country.

You're 'itching' for a flight like this?!? You have a problem, I hope to never be on a flight like this. That being said, doesn't mean I wouldn't fight to subdue the offending person, but I hope this type of thing never happens on any flight.

Why wish that something bad will happen, just so you can be a hero?

Remember REZ is the biggest ALPA cheerleader there is, he would negotiate with the guy, when that fails, he would ignore him, then when the guy finally threatens to crash the plane, REZ would ask all pax on the plane to give all their money to the guy so we could live to fight another day. Then he would send a memo to all papers saying ALPA saved the day. Maybe even put a letter in the industry leading union magazine

That's some funny stuff. But let's not forget, in that letter he will also cry that he was the victim.

Deninately

Why wish that something bad will happen, just so you can be a hero?
Ha ha, I love it how you liberals twist everything around. I do not wish for another attempted aircraft takeover or terrorist act. But realistically, at some point, it's going to happen again. So when it does, I'm stepping up by saying I hope I'm a passenger on the flight. Trust me, they won't make it past my row.
I can only imagine how you and Rez would attempt to handle a terrorist on your plane. Maybe give him a talking-to followed by a group hug. God forbid you "violate" any of his rights.

Some serious icons in that ring. Sergeant Slaugter!? He was the father I never had.

Think way back to 1982. Every GI Joe came with a Sergeant Slaughter coupon. For every 5 you coupons you collected, you got a free Sergeant Slaughter. You sent the 5 in with a nominal S&H fee. When mine came in the mail, for 5 minutes I was the coolest kid on my block.

He could have been my father. I was conceived in the Sportatorium.

Or maybe it was the Junkyard Dog, the Ultimate Warrior, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Randy Savage, or Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Or even the Iron Sheik.
