Jet Lands in Denver After Apparent Suicide
DENVER (AP) -- A man apparently hanged himself in an airplane lavatory during a flight that was diverted to Denver after his body was discovered, police said.

Denver medical examiner's spokeswoman Michelle Weiss-Samaras said an autopsy was planned for the body of Gerald Georgettis, 56, of Miami, which was found Wednesday on a United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles.

"Right now, everything leads us to believe the male involved did commit suicide," police Detective Virginia Lopez said. No other passengers were ever in danger, she added.

And that wasn't before he set ablaze at Ford dealership after a sour deal with his purchase. Hey wouldn't you do the same after getting stuck with a Ford Escape???

MIAMI -- The man accused of driving his new SUV into a Miami-Dade Ford dealership and setting it and other cars on fire last week killed himself aboard a commercial airline flight to Los Angeles, news partner NBC 6 reported on Thursday.

The Denver Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Gerald Georgettis, 56.
A man by the same name and age was charged with arson and felony criminal mischief in Miami after a fire caused nearly $1 million in damage at a Ford dealership there last Saturday. He was free on $1,500 bond.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a passenger was found dead in the bathroom of a United Airlines plane Wednesday night. Officials said he hung himself in the bathroom. The plane, en route from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles, was diverted to Denver.

Denver police Detective Virginia Lopez said no other passengers on the United flight were ever in danger.

``Right now, everything leads us to believe the male involved did commit suicide,'' Lopez said.

Denver Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman Michelle Weiss-Samaras said an autopsy was planned.

Georgettis was accused of driving his new Ford Escape through the Metro Ford dealership's showroom, pouring gasoline on it and lighting it. The fire at Metro Ford caused about $1 million in damage and destroyed nearly a dozen vehicles, including a $150,000 limited-edition 2006 Ford GT :( . Only 250 such cars were ever made.

NBC 6's Nick Bogert spoke with Georgettis on Monday. He said he regretted his actions at the dealership and said he was upset with the purchasing deal he had ended up with for the Escape.

"It was just stupid," Georgettis said.

Last month, the El Paso County coroner ruled that a Sacramento, Calif., woman had committed suicide on an America West flight between Cleveland and Phoenix by overdosing on morphine. That flight made an unscheduled landing Jan. 6 in Colorado Springs after Stephanie Marson was found unconscious in her seat.

News partner NBC 6 and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

Do you think it was a case of auto-erotica gone bad?

Too bad he had to destroy a GT40 on his way out the door.

First he gets hosed by Ford (and they wonder why no one buys their cars...) THEN he has to spend 5 hours on a UAL flight in coach. That's just too much to handle...TC

He destroyed a GT40!

I say hang the dude. Oh. He did it himself.

Nevermind.

Auto-erotica????? Did anybody else get this, very clever and funny!

I want the ability to desecrate his corpse due to the selfish destruction of a GT40.

My wife works for Ford Credit and pulled up his account. There's a notation in there that states, "Do not contact customer regarding late payments. Customer crashed vehicle through showroom window at Metro-Dade, doused vehicle with gasoline, then set vehicle and showroom on fire causing over $1 Mil. in damage to dealership and numerous vehicles including a GT. Customer was arrested, charged, and free on bond awaiting hearing."

What's p.s.?

He did escape, he escaped justice and did in a relatively big way. I would think he ruined everyones day on that flight, because they had to divert, plus take statements and investigate. Plus, isn't there an incident report with the pilots? Not that it's the pilot's fault, but I would think that would generate some cost in time and effort.

He definitely left the planet with someone holding the bag and he let it be known he was mad as hell and not gonna take it no more.
