Just a question to get some people thinking, or maybe its just me being a complete idiot... Had one of our senior captains ask me this question today, and I had to bull$hit a response.
If the airspeed indicator is inherently incorrect, especially at high altitude, then why is the mach meter always correct?
My guess answer? Probably compensates for the error through a calculation of temperature, altitude, and indicated airspeed. Any takers?
