Now that I'm in the pool at FDX, I'm upgrading a few of my "tools of the trade". I 've put a few things off and I'm rewarding myself. I'm sure citibank appreciates my business. Anyway, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a new Luggage Works rolling bag. However I'd like a little input before I do this.

26" v. 22" I'm thinking the 26" bag is the way to go for 2 basic reasons:

Long int'l trips at FedEx being a possibility in the near term (3-5 years) and I plan on commuting and like to bring a lot of crap with me. I know it's big and "not a legal carry on", but I see pilots pulling them all the time. Just want to know the downside to to the taller bag. Do F/A's hassle you when you're the last jumpseater on board, etc? Anybody agree/disagree with my assessment with regard to bag size and trip length? Guidance? Something I missed?

And PLEASE do not hijack my thread and turn it into samsonite v. luggage Works v. Travelpro v. Costco. I'm getting a Lugg Works bag I just want to know about the size and/or the accessories I might need.

And for that matter do not turn this into military v. civilian v. jet v. turboprop v. regional v. major v. jblu v. swa v. airtran v. ups v. FDX v. balck v. white v. gay v. straight v. navy v. airforce v. civi air patrol v. fox v. cnn v. boy v. girl v. backdoor v. front door

Thanks

Go big or stay at home! You can always gate check it, and the bigger bag will be better for those week long trips.

I bought the Stealth Pilot Computer Roller Bag (22") for my sponsor as a thank you for getting me onboard. He's an Airbus guy and said it is the perfect bag; couldn't be happier with it. He's a commuter and said it's big enough. (He is a lousy dresser though, so he probably doesn't need to take much with him!) He told me not to get the larger bag. For what it's worth...........

I bought the larger bag and it is working great for me. It really does hold 10, 11, 12 days worth of stuff (with a little laundry here and there). I haven't had a problem with jumpseating. I only take RJ's and they always check at the airplane. Alot of people say the bag is heavy. Well it is, but so are other bags. The 26 weighs 18.2 oz and all those fancy Briggs (whatever they are called) weigh 14 oz.......a quarter pound less. I find the Luggage Works bag to roll better than anything. It is virtually untippable. The wheels are whisper quiet. Finally, with regards to accessories. If you have a computer, get the extra computer tote from them ($69.95). It clips onto the front of the bag with two clips and is there for good. It does not move.

So, you have a super strong, sturdy, quiet bag. Your brain bag will lock into place with that stabilization strap which goes accross the bag and the extra computer tote sits on top with two clips holding it tight. You will fly through terminals and cargo ramps and nothing will ever tip off your bag again. Finally, you will need the 26. There is not other choice for you. When you start flying long haul, you will need a big bag because you'll also be on reserve.

One last note, the extra computer bag is fantastic. It is a little big, but that's ok. Also, I brought it to a shoe repair place to have the two straps shortened as much as they could go. They were too long before and the bag didn't sit well on top of my flight bag. If you get it, you'll see what I mean.

For what its worth the 26inch bag wont fit into the hole on a 737, I dont know what a 727 has for bag storage... that might be the better question to ask, unless FedEx just has another designated spot for bags.

I do long international trips working out of a 20" department store roller bag. Total packed weight of this bag is about 9.5 kilos. This is important because if you have to airline somewhere internationally, You'll probably be required to check it if it weighs more than 10 kilos.

I think the smaller bag is perfectly adequate. I can fit a weeks worth of underwear, socks, tee shirts, a pair of athletic shoes, etc in it. If the trip is any longer than that, chances are I'll have plenty of time to do a load of laundry.

Having a bigger bag just gives you more space to take stuff you probably won't use or wear.

I'll make you a good deal on my 22" Stealth

Only used for 18 months out of 5 years of employment!

If you don't mind an AA logo, it'll work for you! Duct tape should do it!

:D

I have the bigger bag and it works great! The extra room is nice. No problems commuting. The bag will fit in the overhead if you put it in sideways, not wheels first. If the overheads are full, just check it or put it in the closet or cockpit (if the crew doesn't mind).

If you get the small bag, you will wish you had the bigger one later. Good luck. See you in MEM!

Nah. Ft. Liquordale. But I have surfed 2nd Light at least 100 times. Favorite spot in FL. Submerged road, brown water and planes overhead all day long. Can't beat it!

I just hijacked my own thread... I can't believe it.

Short bag.

Then add a medium sized duffel for trips longer than a week.

And a roll of parachute cord to use as a clothesline in those $400 a night rooms in Osaka....
