Anybody know of a different link to this video? My browser's rejecting it.

i also saw this story and it is much to do about nothing. the video shows footage from the game where the camera pans up and then zooms way in on the 737 in the left hand circle. while it is rare that the circle should extend that far east of MDW it can happen and last night the circle got pretty wide because ATC stacked the planes too close and some non-MDW based carriers such as Delta, Continental, and Northwest were going way wider than common forcing you to follow them. also ATC is always demanding low altitudes in the visual circle to avoid the eastbound departures that go right over the top of the visual approach pattern. i bet this 737 went low hoping to keep in close and then tower made them extend for a departure or perhaps they following traffic ahead that went wide... but whatever the case this stuff happens and the story is way overblown.

Boy, get a load of the "Aviation Expert". Quite polished, looks more like an anchor from a second tier market.

Another round of B.S on a slow news night.

I am sure "Homeland Security" will feel a need for even deeper anal probing!

Just wait until Emperor Daley sees this!

He'll probably sneak onto MDW in the middle of the night and rip up the runways. All in the name of national security, of course.

You ain't missin' much. The PICTURE makes it look odd - - not even scary, just odd - - the video was taken in the dark, you can barely see the airplane from the park but for the zoom work of the cameraman.

The report says the airplane was 6 miles from the airport and the FAA verified the 737 was at 700 feet AGL. That is a tad bit far from the airport to at 700 feet on a circle. What's the CAT D circle radius???

Hi...

That expert is Jim Tilman. He's been a Chicago fixture for as long as I can remember...and I lived there from 1963 to 1992. Mr. Tilman has logged over 20 thousand hours and, well, I think I'd lend him an ear if he was talking about aviation. :)

CAT D radius is 2.3 miles.

Regards

Now thats funny. I have been going to sox games for a long time and I see planes fly the circle all the time. It's no big deal. People are just scared of anything nowadays. I can't wait to hear Daily's reaction

Bart...

I'm not defending the aviation expert, but Jim Tillman is a retired United Airlines Capt.

What's the matter Bart? Is it Hard for you to believe a "Jigga Boo" could be an aviation expert? Is that what YOU WERE REALLY TRYING TO SAY?

It's not officially a circle. It's "maneuvering in visual conditions." I've learned that ATA and SWA are not approved for circling approaches. This is all pretty ridiculous... my parents were at that game last night, and told me "there was a real low ATA plane over the field last night! Maybe the pilots were giving the passengers a show coming in to land?" I just told them they were probably doing the circle behind Northwest and had to extend! Who knew I would be right? :D

"Mr. Tilman has logged over 20 thousand hours and, well, I think I'd lend him an ear if he was talking about aviation. "

He seems corrupted by media to me. He may know aviation, but seems to be going for the sensational story rather than allaying fears like a seasoned vet should.

FN FAL, I don't think that's what Bart said at all. I certainly didn't take it that way. Maybe you are a little sensitive? Maybe you are racist. Is that what YOU are really trying to say?

I think the only reasonable solution to this is to shut down all air traffic within a 20 nm radius of downtown Chicago until they figure out exactly why that plane was so low so far out from MDW!
