I'm looking for info on what to do if you lose your logbook, i have a student working on CFI with this problem, thanks in advance for the help.

He's gonna have some serious 'splainin' ta do.

I interviewed with a guy who lost his logbook in the hurricane, you know. The interviewer said something to the effect of "It looks like this (replacement) logbook was made up just for this job." Of course, he already had the ATP and the FEX written, so he didn't have to deal with the FAA. (He didn't get hired.)

Your student has a bigger problem, I would guess - - he's gotta convince the FSDO, right?

Ouch.

i hope it's not that big of a deal, i was thinking that maybe the faa has a copy of her last 8710, which should make the recreated logbook valid

Did she save her receipts?

The 8710 or the schools training records are also a good way to go.

Beyond that, I know people who make a copy of the last page of their logbook and put it in their safe deposit lock box every month.

Personally, I like to live on the edge.

She can get a copy of all her 8710 forms from OK city, it cost about $10.00. If she hold s Commercial license, which she must since she is applying for a cfi then she should just get a new logbook and start fresh just forwarding all hours from the last 8710 plus what ever she could also prove through recipts and training records. I doubt the FAA will even look at her logbook aside from the endorsements. Tell her to contact all CFIs she flew with if possible also.

I had a student that this happened to when I was a full time CFI. He was an older guy but he wanted to get some kind of flying job. Anyway he had to go to a court magistrate and swear under oath that what he said he "had" was what he "had". But in your situation I'm hoping the 8710 and flight school computer will back it up.
