How is it already starting? Jetblue got 1800 applications in a few days. All well qualified pilots.
Well qualified? By who's standards? The Colgain pilots were supposedly well trained and qualified but training depts do apearantly teach pulling back on the stick or attempting to hold altitude at all costs. They don't teach this during iceing conditions with fatigue thrown in as a factor. Here's the point, de-regulation meant this was always going to be a race to the bottom with nothing allowed to interfere with income especially training costs or searching for pilots with a wide range of experience, that in itself may be one of the most costly efforts an airline experiences during the hiring process. Actually searching out pilots with enough experience to understand and have experienced first hand the iceing process. It's always cheaper to just say "Joe" has a degree in advanced basket weaving and consequintly will make a better pilot. However, as a parallel, let's de-regulte the medical profession and allow strictly for profit companies to decide how well trained any medical doctor must be.
