I am getting the CFI in the next week or so, and was wondering what places fly traffic in the basin. There are a lot of helicopters, but I was told that there were a couple of companies at Burbank, VNY, etc that flew 152's. Anyone have any names they could point me too? I want to fly some traffic on the side. Thanks!

Perhaps we don't understand your questions...

Are you asking where in the LA area you can fly/teach in C-152's?

What do you mean by "I want to fly some traffic on the side."?

The problem is that every Radio Station and TV station has their own helicopter, or they share one with a reporter and all that jazz. They use them for all those car chases that come on here every 4 minutes....

What kind of minimums do you typically need to get a job in a big city like that doing traffic watch / ferrying reporters? Curious both fixed-wing, and "fling-wing"

All TV work in LA is done by helicopters. Most traffic watch is done in planes with the exception of KFWB 980 (Jeff Baugh/National Helicopters) and KIIS-FM (Chuck Street). Both are flown in JetRangers.

Most of the airplane work is done by a company in Palmdale with the planes based at Whiteman. They fly for Metro Traffic. I want to say the company is Pegasus or something like that. I can double-check with a friend who's a reporter in one of the planes. To my knowledge, planes are 172's with a 152 as back-up.

traffic watch

I used to fly traffic here in 321AL. I believe the mins are 500 TT and cfi. I ll call the reporter and ask him. I believe they fly out of FUL or CNO.
there is another company based in VNY, on south east side flying 172. don't know their name...

good luck!!!

I believe you're talking about Jetcopters but they don't fly traffic watch anymore. Exodus now has the contract.
