Folks, this oughta be a doozy:

Applicability:
All Crew Members

Purpose: To notify all crew members of change to the ASA computer network.

Synopsis: On Tuesday, 18 April 2006, all of ASA’s OCC computer systems will be moved from the “Delta” computer network to ASA’s computer network. This includes CrewTrac Web (CrewWeb). The link on myASA will be changed to direct you to the correct location when the move is complete in the early morning hours. If you have CrewWeb bookmarked on your personal computer, the new URL is: http://www.ourasa.com/CrewWeb/

Effective Date: 18 April 2006

Action Required: Change bookmarks for CrewWeb.

I don't care if it's tin cans and a string. It can't be any worse than Delta Technology.

ANYTHING will be an improvement.

Agreed..

A meltdown is kind of fun. It exposes management for the incompetents they are and they can't blame us for it! Good luck.

True, look what it did to Comair 18 months ago.

They are breaking out all the 386's that were put in the closet next to what is now Bryans office back in '99.

This is gonna be good. I'm sure that somehow our 70 seat rate will be blamed for the future failure of the venerable 386's to compete.

What's a 386? Is that a paper form of our flight plans? I've flown on days when the flight control computers crash, and what a pain in the ass that is. :bawling: :crying:

In RGT they said this is the beginning of the integration into SKW IT. If it's a SKW operation I have hope, if it's ASA then hold on to your hats. The good part is we'll be rid of DT and be able to access crew track with out the VPN/Extranet.

If DAL were to fold, the fewer ties there are to them the less the impact on us.

Wow, now I feel old.

386's were computers (maybe mid to late 80's) that at one time were top of the line then came the 486 then the Pentiums etc. Back in the days when we had 2400 baud modems and then the 14000 baud modems came out. This created modem envy, mines faster than yours, and I can download porn faster than you etc. Good times.

Dont worry you are in SkyWest's IT hands now!! You will love you new website!!! I know the guys who built it, they worked hard to get you the same things we have at SkyWest!!

I think it's a sad state of affairs that whenever ASA does something with the computer system that we just expect it to go horribly wrong. I hope SkyWest is in charge of it, cause then maybe it will actually work...

No, I had one too back in college. I couldn't imagine trying to zip all over flightinfo on one though. Just imagine how long it would take GL to accumulate over 6000 posts on one.

Any "meltdown"? Was it "a doozy"?

Or did SkyWest IT get the job done? (SkyWest IT dept usually does a good job)

No issues. Many of the whiners on this board bitch about how bad it is. The SW network looks very promising and so far there have been no issues.

Doesnt matter how good it is cause most on this board will still bitch.

With reference to anything IT related, if it is successfull, it will have had absolutely NOTHING to do with ASA.

If you are not familiar with the technology goatph ucks that have taken place here, or the sheer lack of willingness to adopt any technology that will make the company more efficient or competant, than you haven't been around long.

If you want to call that bitching, fine. Here at ASA we call it a truism.

Skywest is another story.

:cool:Truism is exactly right. And hey, skippy, if you don't fly here at ASA then SHUT YOUR YAP!! You know nothing about what goes on in this circus ole'. The Granite Palace is the ultimate WASTE of SPACE!! There is ZERO accountability within those walls!

I find it ironic that you bitch about all the bitchers.

To give credit where it is due, I didn't notice any problems with the change over.

Just talked to some IT guys at SkyWest....
Here is the scoop on IT at ASA. Prior to the SkyWest purchase, all ASA IT " stuff" was handled by Mother Delta. SkyWest, INC IT guys are transfering all IT from Delta control to SkyWest control.

Things should get MUCH better!!!

man you fellows haven't been at ASA very long. Do you remember before DAT took over? The computers used to ROUTINELY collapse, leaving the whole fleet without releases, fuel numbers, etc.....the first day of a four day, who cares....the hour before the freedom leg--total bummer. I doubt they still have the "verbal dispatch release" forms available.

ASA in charge of their own computers, that will be hysterical! Next they'll be in charge of their own baggage! This may well costs Brian L his job--because it simply won't work

DISCLAIMER.....if SkyWest is really running the computer show, I give this op a much better chance of success.

the hour before the freedom leg--total bummer.

I can remember running inside and calling 1-800-wxbrief and filing my own flightplan. We'd taxi out, waving to the ~30 crews stuck because the computer was down to ATC.

As for bidding, as late as 1999 all bids were hand-written and went into a red lock box in ops. If you were a commuter on vacation tough chit. Bob Waller from scheduling would come get the box, take it to the dark tower and empty it down the stairwell off the 8th floor. The bidder on the top step would get his first choice, etc.... (Just kidding Bob - pm me if you read this).
