Hi all,
This might be a very unusual question for these forums, and I hope I am not offending all the real pilots at this forum, but here it goes:

For my hobby I am very much into FlightSimming and recently I have started to build a 1:1 copy of a Learjet 45 cockpit. The problem is that I cannot find the proper documentation with cockpit dimensions, and instrument layouts.
I have already send out an E-mail to Bombardier Aerospace, but for some reason they seemed very reluctant to give me any information, and directed me to their website, where such info is not to be found!
I have found several Flightdeck photo's of the Lear 45 already, but they are not detailed enough for me to read the panel texts.

My question to you Lear 45 Pilots is, that whenever you can find the time and are by any chance carrying a digital Photo camera, to make me some detailed cockpit pictures, and especially from the several panels close up , so that I can read the texts next to buttons, knobs etc. That way I can determine what they are for and reproduce them in my sim.
Also some photo's of the circuitbreaker panels if possible.
Photo's of any kind, can be mailed to me directly, I don't mind big sized downloads, but zipped files are preferred.

I hope one of you is willing to help me out,
Thanks in advance,
Jaap Both

Try Ebay..........you can buy any Flight Safety or Simulfight checklist there. You won't get dimensional mockups but you will have just about every other detail you need. As far as getting pictures. Don't expect many responses over the Inet in the post "9/11" environment. Your best bet is to find the closest operator in your area and ask the crew if you can do it.

Jump over and visit Airliners.net (use link below) and use the drop down boxes to select "Lear 45" under Aircraft Type, and "Flight Deck (Cockpits)" under Category.

They have a few photos on there that might be able to help you out!

Hello guys,

Thanks for your answers!

Uncle Sparky:
I have not tried Ebay yet, but that is a solid tip. As for finding an operator near me: that's not easy I'm afraid. I live near Rotterdam Airport, and there are no Lears stationed there. Every once in a while one does land I'm sure, but I would never have the chance to get near enough to ask the crew......

User997:
I'm afraid I have already been there. I even dare to say that I think I already have all available Lear 45 Flightdeck Pics to be found on the net (maybe a bit of an over statement, but just to point out I have spent hours and hours searching...).
I have quite good ones too, but the problem with all of them is that they can't be zoomed in far enough to read all the signs and knobs.
They get blurry and unreadable......

Ahh well, I'll keep trying, searching and asking. It must work out one day..............

Have tried just about everything by now. No result !
In my country (the Netherlands) are no operators working with LearJets, so the chances of finding one at a Dutch airport are very slim ! Let alone trying to get hold of the crew, and getting them to let me into their cockpit to take some pictures, and fiddle around with my tape measure...... Shoot !

Come on you guys! There must be someone here who can help me, right?

Ok, well thanks for reading anyway...

Google?

Did you try google?

I just typed in "lear 45 cockpit pictures: -- and in the results click on "Images,"

I have absolutely tried Google, and it gave me some result, a couple of beautifull flightdeck pictures. Not much of them at google though.
All in all I must now have about 10 good and sharp shots of the 45 Flightdeck.
They are all Freeware BTW.

BUT, the problem with all of them is that texts on buttons, panels and knobs is not readable, even when enhanced and zoomed.
There is also the problem of the yokes blocking some parts of the panel, and last but not least: It is very hard to calculate dimensions when all you have is a photograph...
I'll never be able to construct a complete and accurate replica of my favourite cockpit......Unless......... someone can help me!

I'll keep trying!

Try calling Bombardier and telling them you're interested in buying an airplane. They will send you loads of stuff.

Brilliant! I like THAT idea. Tell them that due to your Nordic heritage, the height of the average male in the Netherlands is 6feet- 5inches and you're not sure if you'll "fit" the airplane. "Can ya' please send something with dimensions?!"

try www.simviation.com/ ........ask on their Forums, they have a section dedicated to life size sim building.

Thanks Uncle Sparky,
Great site, I'm gonna post my question there. You never know.
In the mean time I did write a letter to Learjet Corp. in the UK. I explained what I want to do, and asked them for drawings or pictures.
Just wait and see now.....

Thnx

Hey Simbuilder,

Just wondering what part of Holland you are from?

My mom was born there (Blauhuis, in Friesland), and I have family all over Holland (Utrech, Nijmegen, Vleuten... can't remember the other cities). Holland sure is beautiful! I am currently trying to gain Dutch Nationality through my mom and get an EU passport (although because of some very retarded Dutch rule, I do not think I will qualify :( ).

Good luck with the sim,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I'm from Delft. That's somewhere between The Hage (where the Dutch Government resides), and Rotterdam.
And your right about retarded rules ! The Netherlands is full of them, and more of them every day! Pay a lot of taxes, 1 liter of Gas costs 1,73 USD, etc. Ah well, I was born here.......
In Holland we have a saying: The grass always seems greener at your neighbour's......

Regards,
Jaap

I doubt there's any "grass" that's greener than Amsterdam's... :D

LOL :p !!

Thought you'd like to know: A service Technician from Bombardier in Canada, has agreed to send us some technical drawings !
Can't wait to have them......
