Looking to find anyone who has jumpseated or tried to jumpseat in Brazil? I am looking to go from Sao Paulo (GRU) to Recife (REC) on around January 26th. Is it possible? What airline can anyone recommend? Any advice is appreciated? Thanks.

Buy an ID90 valid for TAM Airlines at your company's ticket counter. You can purchase it either GRU-REC or CGH-REC, and they will honor departures from whichever airport. Done it several times flying within Brazil. TAM is very good and the crew is often very friendly when you identify yourself. They just might ask you to ride the jump to be able to chat with you during the flight. If your airline has an agreement with TAM (most do), you should be set to go.
Enjoy the beaches in Recife. Go to Natal if you have the opportunity.
Take care!

great advice Brazpilot, obrigado meu irmao. I haven't tried that yet, I have otherwise traveled on TAM and the crews are very accamodating.

More like "have fun!"
learn a few portuguese words and you'll be fine.

You might want to get a backup refundable ticket on GOL in case the TAM nonrev doesn't work out. Jumpseating as we know it is impossible in Brazil. You'll LOVE Brazil - I go twice a year (my parents retired there 3 years ago).

Best advice I can give you is to ignore some of these idiots who have posted negative comments and who have probably never left the US in their lives. I think that Brazil is the most incredible place in the world, and I'm not even from there.

Ypioca / Espiritu De Minas / Germana / Pitu / Pirassununga 51 / Solucao and 1000 other brands of Cachaca. Enjoy!

Thanks 10, yes I do ignore the morons that talk smak on the site, I have no time for them, anyway are you saying that jumpseating is out of the question totally? Or is there a chance and you are saying have a back up? My airline has no agreement with Tam or GOL. Thanks again.

Yes, unfortunately that's exactly what I'm saying. Jumpseating as we know it in the US (ie: getting a free ride on another airline) is practically unheard of outside the USA.

If you try to 'jumpseat' in Brazil, nobody will have any idea of what you're talking about and they will treat your request with the same confusion that your airline would treat a non-pilot arriving at the gate and asking for a free ride.

BHS,

I've been renting a condo in Rio for the past 5 years and can't say enough about Brazil. It truly is a wonderful place to visit and the people are wonderful.
As far as Jumpseating, I've never done it within the country, just to and from the US ( ORD-GRU-GIG on UA or ORD-MIA-GIG on AA)
I did nonrev on Varig once from Sao Paulo to London Heathrow, maybe 3 years ago and they were very accomodating. Flight was totally full, an MD-11, and rather than leave me behind they put me in the cockpit for takeoff and landing, and the f/a crew rest area for the rest of the flight.
Hope you have fun while there.
Take care.

Thanks Hoke, I am stoked to go, I have a serious girlfriend in Recife and will be meeting her for the first time. Thanks for the great info! Happy New Years to you!

Ahhh...The Internet is a wonderful thing

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A
Hitch-hiked her way across the USA
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
She said, Hey honey
Take a walk on the wild side...
