I'd say one's odds of getting hired on at a good to excellent corporate job (widebody international bizjet notwithstanding) are directly related to 1. networking and 2. previous corporate experience instead of sheer total flight time.

Yes, unless you know someone you'd have a better chance at being a Brain Surgeon.
 
I just checked the job openings section on Ameriflights web page and there is nothing posted at all. I don't know if the page isn't working, being updated, or if there is nothing. Good luck!
Might be a couple months before AMF resumes hiring where they just lost a bunch of DHL flights. Then again, they'll probably pick up a good amount of business in the form of UPS in the next couple months. Just wait for the dust to settle.
 
I agree, now is the wrong time to begin an airline career.

Go do something cool that can work into a good flying job, like work for BLM or USFS as a wildland firefighter, then apply from within for pilot jobs with them.
 
Stay out of aviation.

Two words:

Peak Oil. Google "Matthew Simmons". He has forgotten more about the oil industry than most will ever know. He's also an oil investment banker, not some "end-of-the-world" nut.

Stay out of flying. Period. It's a dead end.

Not to say that there is an unlimited supply nor am I saying that we shouldn't pursue alternatives to oil but, my Google searches revealed, according to oil industry insiders, that Simmons is indeed that doomsday whack job marching around with the proverbial "The End is Near" sandwich board.
