My instructor is out of town or I would've asked him this. I've searched the FARs and correct me if I'm wrong, but if I go off tomorrow and fly to another airport that is WITHIN 25 NM and I land there, I can log it as X-C time to count towards my private certificate? Or would I just log it as solo time?

I'm pretty sure it's the first one but I don't want to make a big mistake and log it as X-C time when I'm not supposed to.

I believe it has to be 50 NM away for it to count as x-c time towards your ppl.

But towards your 135 PIC minimums, you can log it. No column for it in regular paper logbooks though, so I've added a column for it in my digital book.

Joshrk22,

Refer to FAR 61.1(b)(3)(ii)(B) for the definition of cross country time.

I know that's a long reference number to find but basically says that:

"...for the purpose of meeting aeronautical experience requirements, for a private pilot certificate etc..." "...at least a straight line distance of more than 50 nautical miles from the original point of departure; and ..."

hope this helps.
